I'm sorry if this has been asked before...

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

But I was wondering if there was any plans in the works to make something like SPWaW that was post-WWII, essentially like SP2. I was amazingly happy to find any version of Steel Panthers (IMO one of the best strategy games ever created), and while WWII scenarios are fun to play (and the campaigns I can create with the new nations and expanded timeline vs. the original SP are great too), a post WWII would be really cool too.

Once again, sorry if this has been brought up before.

SPMBT by the SP Camo group can be found here:

It's a free download, and covers 1949 to near future ...
Enjoy :) !

Tracer, you talking about what Willy here is talking about? If not, do you have a link?

Willy, problem is, SPMBT doesn't run on Windows XP :(...tried that...probably should've mentioned it...SPMBT and the WWII one that SPCamo has both don't run on XP.

Yeah, I've heard that it's tough to get SPMBT to work in XP - heck, I had trouble getting it to work in WinME ... :( . I'll see if I can find a link where some tech help can be found from SPCamo.

Yes; I just mis-spoke when I said 'modern'.

SPMBT works in XP, there are guys out there using it that are the proof of the pudding.

Wish I was one of them, but sadly it has stymied me.

It might take you a bit of finagling, but yes SPMBT works in XP.

Might get some leads over in Steel Panthers at Wargamer if Yahoo is not a direction you enjoy.

We've had plans to do that. Mike Amos was working on a Korea Variant. We also considered a Vietnam variant.

Sadly, I don't think it will happen. Its too bad because the elements are there to make it a smashing success.

So SPMBT is really your only choice right now...and it is a good one. The SP-Camo Group did a fine job on it. It is on my computer. I wish I had more tme to play it.

I'm sorry, once again, I wasn't specific. It works in XP, but you still have to have a GPU with VESA graphics support in DOS...which I don't (the GeForce MX4 has no such support). I can run the game...I just can't see anything. I've looked through SPMBT's MOBHack at the country setups and equipment profiles and its only gotten me more ****** that I can't run it.

I'd just love to see a modern one that runs through windows and not DOS, because then this whole graphics issue wouldn't be problematic.

I have Windows XP with GeForce 4 MX440.

SPMBT works.

Sadly I don't know how to MAKE it work if it doesn't.

(The only problem is the mouse being slow, but there's a program which can fix that.)

Have you ever considered buying a used 'veteran' PC just to run the old games??

Shouldn't cost much and if you get a keyboard/monitor switch, you only need the CPU case to clutter up the desk.....

Just a thought,
Cheers,
Reg.

I have actually been waiting to do the variation my friend uses.

He never gets rid of anything. Actually half of my upgrades are actually his old parts :)

I figure the next time I get insane and invest a good sum to make a computer leap, I will likely buy a new case, and the current machine will get "converted" to a dinosaur friendly computer option.

It will seem odd having a computer running Win 98 SE though. 98SE is no ones idea of a leap forward (regardless of the hype).

Yes I have...but being at college, and only having a laptop means that I would have to buy the whole thing...shoddy moniter and all, and its just another thing to lug around back and forth at the end of the year...the better thing would be to buy a new GPU (one with VESA support).
