ToS copyprotection problems

Post by Enviral »

Here is the problem I'm having:

I click on either the .exe in the ToS folder or I try from the autorun screen with the same resulting message:

"This program cannot run without the original CD in the drive"

I noticed a few other people had the same problem and hopefully you do have a fix of some sort for this problem. (I have uninstalled and reinstalled to see if that rectifies the issue...no dice.)

We will have a patch out next week and this should fix your problem.

Holy mother of modifications.

What kind of badly coded game needs you to swap IDE drives?
If a coder cannot make a routine that will detect where everything is they shouldn't be working on the project.

Can't beleive the game is making the user change their system to suit it's needs. It shouldn't be like that. The game should be flexible enough so that it can work no matter what IDE cable the CD-ROM is on.

And btw, the standard and default style is to have the Hard-Disk on Primary Master, and cdrom on Primary Slave. But even if they are switched, this problem should not occure. I never seen any game in my life react this way till now.

Perhaps you should stop bashing us game coders as we are NOT responsible for this. Its a problem with the the copy protection which is applied AFTER the game is delivered to the publisher. Therefore I do accept your apology [:)]

Heh. I have this problem with a LOT of games. I find it rather despicable and funny that this kind of copy protection more often stops legitimate users than it deters any kind of piracy.

The answer is EXTREMELY simple.

Any game that comes out will have someone crack through the copy protection in hours. Do a little google searching, find a crack, and play the game.

Perfectly legal if you own the game.

And much cheaper (and simpler) then moving hardware around.

BTW: Okay, nothing against anti-piracy measures. I'm actually all for them. But, you know, investing in one that doesn't break the game for legitimate users may actually be a better idea. Serial numbers, for instance. Online registration.

I did not know this.
Well then all my words are directed towards the people who have put the copy protection in place.

Don't be too quick to pull an apology out my mouth on your own. I have read all the other posts and most of the in game bugs are quite pathetic aswell :P

Shrug, actually, all things considered, this is one of the most stable games I've seen. I've yet to hear of but a few "show stopper" bugs, and most of those are extremely exotic and hard to trigger.

There are several minor problems, sure. But almost nothing that actually effects gameplay.

Given the crap I've seen released nowadays (MOO3? Dues Ex 2? Oh, Temple of Elemental Evil?) this is a welcome relief to be actually playing the game instead of waiting for the first patch.

EDIT: spelling and grammar > me

I do not think I’ve seen ToS crash on me yet, but then again I have not had time to play it much with my beta testing etc going on. However I have had a few times where it seems my titans get stuck into an infinite loop of waiting while being attacked repeatedly and never getting out of this waiting mode.

Not sure it is a bug, probably my inexperience with setting the on wait procedures wrong and causing some sort of circular wait que which results in deadlock? :P

Well, if they're being attacked, then chances are you messed up your wait on commands [:'(]
If you notice they have entered such a loop, hit F3 and call their attack and/or move modes. Check '9' to see modes settings for all team members.
