Scout Aircraft for V.5.0

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Scout Aircraft for V.5.0

Post by MaxGross »

I would like to make a case for inclusion of scout aircraft for v.5.0

I have read many arguments in past posts before I was a member regarding this subject. I do disagree with the arguments against having scout aircraft in SPWAW, and I will attempt to make some simple points in favor of including them.

First and foremost SPWAW is just a game. It has been created for our enjoyment and expertly (I might add) developed to be as close to real conditions as possible.

If one is going to be a stickler for realism then one has to except all items on all sides that existed during WWII. If an item is excluded then we must ask "was it excluded because it was questionable as to it's existance or not an item relvalent to gaming.

Scout aircraft did exist on all sides. they did have an intregal part in foward air control for artillary fire, as well as other missions. The counter measure was anti-air defences, which everyone had as well. We can apply the same logic to the use of scout aircraft as we can for unacceptable shows for children on TV. Just turn the channel, or just don't use scout aircraft in the games you create. If you do use them there is always counter measurers.

I have used scout aircraft in SP2, and WWII games with the appropriate anti-air on the other side and it was very difficult at times to get maximum effectiveness out of them. I would hardly call that cheating.

Finally, I believe scout aircraft should be included and allow those of us who wish to use them to at least have that benefit. Those who wish not to use them have an option as well. But at least allow the gamer to make their own decision with out denying them equipment that legally existed in WWII. After all we are all adult mature men.

This is mearly my opinion and, I'm not trying to get into a big argument over this issue. I would only ask the powers to be at Matrix Games to take this into concideration.

Thank You

MaxGross, unfortunately, among other things, there are absolutely no icons remaining of these, all the spotter aircraft have been replaced, so even if the class was brought back, there are NO icons, and no room to add them!! Sorry about that, but other icons took precedence over the spotters when they were removed. Image

I agree.
They should be included.
And yes, AA is a good deterent as well as not moving as fast and definitely not in the open to avoid detection when it does not risk much by staying well back of AA range.

Afterall historically all Nations had to contend with moving in full view of a spotter -- near a static constantly active battle area\(such as in Italy) / or just proceeding with actions at the risk of heavy arty and other responses ...

i also like their being available as
strike craft with assigned entry and exit
hexes

that was a good idea as well

but i must say that for spec op's and other inclusions into the game -- surely we cannot give up on the tiny Fiesler Storch with
Leutnant Grabyou DasAlot of Pz Abt 101 or 503
and his Strawberry Fraulein over the ...

you get the picture

Thanks for the information. I was not aware. Perhaps in the future the issue (as well as the ability to have the icon) may pop up again. In any case I appreciate the quick response. Image
