How do you shoot up planes on the ground. Is it set at 100 feet. If you fly at that won't you take high loses to air to air.

Sweep is actually a "fighter patrol" over the target. It allows you to send your fighters to an enemy base and engage the CAP there. It won't attack planes on the ground. For that, you need to set the group to Airfield Attack.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but fighters on sweep, will straff airfield only when there is no enemy CAP and sweep fighters altitude is 100ft. I didn’t use this option in my latest games and don’t remember it for sure.

Sweep set at 100ft : the planes will strafe the runaway so that will destroy few planes on the ground
Sweep over 100ft: the fighters will engage the cap enemy's figheters .Usually this is used to weak enemy's cap defence before lunching a massive air bombing on a base.
