PBEM Time scale

Post by neuromancer »

A quick question. In PBEMs, what time scale do you normally play at?

The full campaign is a year and 2/3 long, roughly 600 days long. In the one day to one turn mode, that would seem rather impractical to play out.

I tried upping it to 2 days per turn once, and found that the game doesn't really lend itself to that scale, it will do too many things you really wish it would not in that time.

So do people run at higher scales simply acknowledging that both parties are equally hampered? Or do they run at 1 day per turn, and stick to the shorter scenarios that are more likely to actually be concluded? Or do people try to play the full game at the slowest speed - and few games are ever actually finished?

Most of us play 1 day turns, and I think most of us play the long campaigns 17 or 19. These do take a while to complete. One game just ended 12/31/43 that was started in Sept of 2002. Really dependson how you and your opponent want to move it along. I for one don't think there's any hurry.

A lot of us are playing 1 day turns and try to get out 2 per day and multiples
on weekends.
I have 4 games at 1 day turns and 1 at 2 day turns.
The two day turn isn,t all that bad as a lot of task forces such as
bombardment can hit a base and be back at port on your next turn.
and fast transporting same situation.
If you are not careful with patrol do not retire settings you can
run into trouble by hanging your ships out thier.
also fatigue of air groups has to be planned very carefully.
I actually like playing the game at two day turns ( but I think any higher setting
would be inpracticle).

Hi all,

I think 99% of us play 1 day turns.

As for length... well this game is for patient people... [8D]

P.S. Did I mention that I played snail-mail chess when i was kid - compared to that UV PBEM is lightning speed fast... [;)]

but I must admit that most games dont last that long, one of the frustrating things is when you have a good game going and your opponent admits defeat, even though you think the situation is not as bad for them as they think it is, especially as the Japs. I know that when I play the allies, I have kept going in worse situations than some opponents have admitted defeat, but then again I always have been stubborn
