New to HTTR! Wow!!

Post by Black66 »

As a LONG time wargamer all I can say is WOW...how did I miss this game out of the gate? I just started playing and I'm thoughly impressed. I've played every thing from Advanced Squad Leader to Close Combat to Clash of Steel to Panzerleader. I love WWII gaming. Let's just say I'm excited about the future of this system and what it can do and am looking forward to the new stuff coming out. Just a few comments....

What's with the TINY print in the manual? It gave me a headache! Hope a pdf file will be out soon so I can reference parts easily and acutally read them without a bright light over my shoulder (as I do most of my computer gaming in a darkened room).

I've played a few of the scenerios and have done well in some, got my butt handed to me in others but how in the hell are the Allies supposed to win "Advance on Loenen" in 12 hours? I can't even come close! Any hints would be appreciated.

Great work Panther...keep it up!

Black66,

Thanks for your postive feedback. Yep the manual pdf will be released with the patch this week. As for Advance on Loenen strategies, just do a search on loenen and this should bring up a number of posts. If it doesn't it means thay have been lost in the great Russian Hacking Attack of Feb 04.

Hint. Infiltrate, don't try and breakthrough. Keep moving. First up, deploy your Arty unit and use it to supress any enemy you encounter
Don't waste time in fire fights or local attacks. Don't stop for anything until you get within 1500m of Loenen. Go like the clappers and don't look back. Good luck. [:)]

It's worse than that m8, I assume you missed AA:RDoA too ! [:D] You even got a readable manual with that (one of the best I've seen, actually - sadly decent printed manuals seem to be historical relics now [:(] )

That's why I have tremendous respect for Panther and Matrix--including a printed manual at all (albeit with print a bit too small) is a real touch of class and an indication of dedication to the game's community. When there is such focus on the "bottom line" at most companies, I would like Panther and Matrix to know I truly appreciate their inclusion of a printed manual. And kudos for including pdf's with the patch. Thanks guys!

Oh, don't get me wrong. I was very happy to see that manual. Thick manuals mean an indepth game, my favoite type. What's really misleading is how MORE in depth the game is despite the manual. Very happy with my purchase!

Indeed, without wanting to promote the game, this engine is just great and refreshing.

Hint 2: Don't believe everything you read in intelligence reports. Things are not always what they seem and enemy troops move around too...

Hint #3: You can only specify the ROF for arty if you manually issue bombard orders. Given the limited time frame, you may want to do this.
