Matrix Games and Simulations Canada combine and completely remake two classic NATO vs. Warsaw Pact wargames into a new classic. Based on the original wargames “Main Battle Tank: North Germany” and “Main Battle Tank: Central Germany”, Flashpoint Germany is a new grand tactical wargame of modern combat. Every aspect of modern grand tactical warfare is included, from advanced armor, air and helicopters to chemical and tactical nuclear weapons. Step into the most dangerous war.. . that never was.

Not too much new to discuss right now. We are trying to make the final push but that is easier said than done! Matrix is trying to get a number of new games out the door in the next few months and we are competing with each other for scarce resources. The 'finishing touches' for this one are proving surprisingly hard to actually finish! For every item we cross off the list we find that we have added two more.

My frenetic day job hasn't helped any either but David and Bart are pushing things along. All I can suggest is that you keep watching this forum.... The final round of playtesting is beginning and there should be a bigger info flow again soon.

Thanks, Rob.

Rob,

I would be nice for you or a deputy to be a little more active here as a way to generate more interest in this interesting sounding game and make you more money. Maybe post some screenshots or some features.

I was floored when the call came for beta testers and wanted to sign up but was not sure if I had the time to spare or the expertise.

Rob,

I would be nice for you or a deputy to be a little more active here as a way to generate more interest in this interesting sounding game and make you more money. Maybe post some screenshots or some features.

I was floored when the call came for beta testers and wanted to sign up but was not sure if I had the time to spare or the expertise.

Whilst I would like to hear news on a more regular basis (I did start the post), I have to agree with Rob.

I am a developer myself. When I create a program, if I am testing it or running through it, I can always find something to change...always!!

Also, I've just read a report that says hype too early on a game or hype followed by delays is a big disappointment to gamers and they tend to lose interest and get a little hostile (just check Half Life 2 and Doom 3 forums anywhere...these games have great potential and yet alot of people are saying they aren't going to bother with them now). I've actually witnessed this on one or two boards on these forums (I think Cross of Iron is one of them).

And, the last point is I've saw requests for screenshots and some more information on features be answered....only for calls to clarify or explain deeper....which then ties up the developers even more...which, inevitably, will put the game back somewhat. One post (again I think Cross of Iron) had some screenshots. These were followed by questions on if the shadows were dynamic...they were not...why not...because...but couldn't you.....so you see how it goes around!!

So, although I would like to see more info, I'm fully aware of the situation.

But...just a couple of screenshots - no need to embellish [;)]

Aww, OK, I'll come up with some screen shots in the next day or two. The interface hasn't changed much and the final artwork is still a gleam in the eye. I was holding off until the new user interface skin was ready because that would be a really visibile improvement, but what the heck... The months keep slipping by and the artwork is always in 'just get a little more done on the game first' status.

The esteemed Mark S was going to do the skin and other art, but recently we have been talking to an Australian, Robert Armstrong, whose skill with Photoshop just blows me away. I'm explaining how the skin editor works to him and he is figuring out his time commitments to see if he can swing it for us. We are pulling together some of the other far flung pieces too - things like photos of all the various vehicles for the database. There are sound effects to finalize and movies to make too. There is always more to do!

To top it off, the new playtesters are coming up with some pretty good observations that are going to take some mental energy to consider and reply to.

God I love this.

Cheers, Rob.

Perhaps the playtesters can help in the posting department.

Depending upon the NDA of course.

Hmmm... I don't mind helping here but I think (as the Canuck said) the NDA is the real kicker. How about I promise to only post the good things I find in the FPG beta[:D]

This is just a small note to inform all members of these honour filled forums that my husband, JudgeDredd, has just killed himself. Gawd rest his soul! [&o]

Ah, gee, thanks Grayshaft. You just reduced our addressable market for the game by about 5%!

Maybe we could add his name to the credits as a little memorial under the RIP section?

I had hoped to be able to say that 'no animals were hurt in the production of this game' but now I'm not so sure - can we get a confirming opinion from the good wife on that point? Was JudgeDredd an animal?

Cheers, Rob.

Still thinking about screenshots but the dang playtesters have been finding a lot of bugs this week so I'm holding off for now....

Hell yeah.....er...oh....I mean, oh, yes. My husband was indeed an animal....

And as a mark of respect to my husband, I will be willing to look at the screenshots for him....he looketh through my eyes as his tools!
