3 Questions

Post by Klondike »

Hi ALL

#1.It is March 1943...I am playing the Allies..How come I cannot put Corsairs on my carrier's but I can put Spitfire V's on them??I never heard of Spitfire V's operating off of American Carriers...

#2 I have invaded Kolombangara in the Solomon's but the invasion is failing..I am trying to evacuate my troops...How do Evacuation task forces work??Every time I try to send a task force to the island it turns back because of enemy surface forces..

#3 Same situation except the question is: Will my C-47 Dakota's that I recently placed on Guadacanel supply my beleagured troops or do I have to own the base for that to happen??

Thanx for your replies..

The Spitfire Mk.V was not carrier-capable, but it was the basis for the minimum-change variant that became the Seafire, which explains why you can operate Spitfires from CVs. You can operate Spitfires from US CVs because PacWar is limited in how many different "nationalities" it can keep track of, and USN/USMC types got lumped in with Australian, British, and Dutch aircraft for convenience (and to cut down on players abusing the game). As for the F4U, you should be able to operate those from your CVs with the arrival of the F4U-4 in 1944; in the latest patch, the F4U-1 was made non-carrier-capable to reflect its historic use (and to cut down on players abusing the game).

2) An evacuation TF should work OK; you have to set the destination hex to the base you are trying to evacuate, and the return-to-base hex should be where you want the evacuated troops to end up. (Make sure it has a good amount of supplies so the troops can recover readiness quickly.) enemy surface combat TF's will often cause an Evacuation TF to abort its mission, just like they can abort Cargo and even Transport TF's. The best solution is to send a Surface Combat TF of your own to Kolombangara. If you don't have sufficient surface forces, than carriers or LBA should be used, but they will probably not cause the enemy Surface Combat TF to retire until the next turn.

3) A squadron of C-47's has a chance of delivering fuel and supplies to an enemy-controlled base within the range of the C-47, in other words, four hexes. It is NOT a sure thing; there is weather and other Fog-Of-War factors. (Note that C-47's are now the only transport aircraft in the game!) If the base and the airfield are under friendly control, the possible transport range is doubled. Since Kolombangara is three hexes from "The Island of Death" (Guadalcanal), it should work. However, air-dropped supplies will not be enough to keep any sizeable body of troops in business for long. Eventually you will have to re-supply by ship, or evacuate.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?
