Im sure there are a few here that play or have played the Close Combat series. For the past year or so the only site with with CC releated mods, utilities and a helpful forum has been the CSO site (Close Combat Clan).

Anyways, I got these 2 emails today...I guess since Im registered on their forum.

Maybe not as bad as I thought. The main site is down, but the forums are still working.

Ok,

The SERVER has not been hacked, the usual script kiddies have got in via (open source) php nuke.

nuke is know for having a few holes, all thye did was gain access to the admin section of nuke (ie front end of site)

I have changed the main page until we get the DB and front end sorted.

This is the same sort of twat (age 10 mentality) that hits alot of our size site.

We actually have several security patches running on the server and all the latest patches for forums etc. Our host aslo runs added security on all server directories. so we are actually pretty well covered.

As for the mailing, by gaining access to the admin section of the nuke site, they gained access to the user list and just used the email list function (very clever of them)

Sorry for the hassle guys, I only found out about 30 mins ago.

Brake is for sure NOT the common factor here.

The common factor is that there are a ton of teens and the tools to hack php, asp and other web based techs is there for the taking. These are all kids and have zero to do with mr B, for one they KNOW how to do this. All of thse ttacks via scripts (not server based) are kids and a REAL pain in the butt.

I laready have the site back up and running fully restored and am just adding a couple of new security features and it will be back online and fully operational!

The commonality here is kids, too much testosterone, boredom and not enough parental supervision, These guys are SO bright thye even have a site based and online in Seattle !!
