Combined movement?

Empires in Arms is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. Empires in Arms is a seven player game of grand strategy set during the Napoleonic period of 1805-1815. The unit scale is corps level with full diplomatic options

Combined movement?

Post by Hoche »

No one to my knowledge has asked about how combined movement will be addressed in the game. Combined movement is essential in coalition warfare.

How will CM be handled in single player games? Will you be able to tell your computer ally to move there and he will? keeping fleets together and transporting corps is essential. Will the AI be able to handle such complex moves along with a human player?

What about PBEM games?

This is a great question. Where is the answer? [>:]

Was it raised too late and we won't have it in the initial release? Our Anti-Napoleon coalition days will be very difficult without the combined movement...

Hey guys:

Combined movement will NOT be the traditional method. It is done by loaning corps units to an ally for the month. You have the choice of loaning any or all of your corps units to a major ally.

This sounds reasonable considering the limitations of the AI and PBEM. But it does raise some other questions.

For example. If France and Spain combine movement in EiA they move with the nation the moves last in the land and naval phase. So if combined movement uses only loaned corps will this means that France will move first in the land phase with corps they don't loan Spain? Then the corps they loan to Spain will then move last? This could be used to give players a double move capability the game didn't intend. France could break a line of corps on their turn. Then exploit the gap with corps loaned to Spain on Spain's turn. [:(]

I think the idea of loan corps for a turn to facilitate combined movement is a good idea.[:)] But I think nations who combine movement should move at the same time. Using the above example France's turn should be pushed back to move with Spain. Spain would move their corps along with French corps loanded to them. Then after both players moves are complete then battle and sieges are conducted. You may be doing that way but I needed to ask.

Probably best to designate all loans during the current turn to become effective the following turn? That way players would have full control of loaned units for the entire turn. Players would then have to decide who loans to whom for best advantage, depending on turn sequence.

What's the thinking on how the AI will handle offers and requests for loans? That should be interesting.

Marshall,

How do you handle the rule that allows France and GB to pick when they are going to move?
If you do have that in the game, maybe it should be disabled while they have corps/fleet on loan or loaned to them? (I assume there is an option to loan fleets as well)
