Night fighters

Up until recently all my experience in UV has been with 1942 scenarios (various reasons) but I am now involved in the one encompassing 1943 (well, most of it). I have often been on the receiving end of nightime harrassment air raids, so I was interested in the chance to use the US night figthers. Strangely enough, since the day that I sent my first squadron of P70s forward to Lunga, there has not been a single night attack (it has now been about a month of game play since that momentous occaision). There had been such a raid just the night before the P70s were brought forward. Is this a normal occurrence in UV?

I've been playing Scen 10 from mid June 43 to, at present, mid October 43 and during the entire game (against the AI) there have been no night bombing attacks. Japan has relatively limited resources by 1943 and limit their attacks primarily to daytime torpedo attacks on Tfs in forward ports. There have been only about 10-20 daytime attacks in the entire game and only about 2-4 ships have been hit.

I have been using the night fighters to fly LRCAP over enemy bases. I've lost about 15 P70-A's without a kill and so I can't recommend the tactic. You are perhaps better off flying airfield or port attack sorties with these aircraft.

The nightfighter issue aside, I think that night bombing is way too effective in UV, primarily because the fatigue generated is so low and the fact that they almost always find their target. You can fly night bombing raids for several consecutive days without accumulating a quarter of the fatigue you get flying a single daylight mission. In addition, the 1942-43 technology for night bombing was such that you were lucky to hit the right city or base or island, let alone the right target.

Has anyone every seen a UV night fighter (J1N1 / P-70) shoot down an enemy bomber at night?
I have not! Wondering if I send them Sayn-Wittgenstein as an Instructor [8|]
