New to wargaming

Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.

New to wargaming

Post by Balls2004 »

i have played all of the various RTS games but wargaming i just far more intriguing to me. It seems much more involved and appeals to my meticulous nature. I was wondering if this would be a good game to start with. i guess one way or another i'm getting it but i figured i'd ask anyway. and also can anyone give me some pointers as to what i'll need to do to get into the game right off. i've read that some people are confused by the nato symbols. are they addressed or broken out in the pdf manual? I am really looking forward to breaking into this genre. i can hardly think about anything else. looking at getting into the boardgames too but that's another topic. any advice would be appreciated. also when i nab this gem (apparently CGW named it wargame of the year in the most recent issue) i'll be on here looking for someone that doesn't mind a via email game with a noob. again thanks for any advice.

Hi Balls2004 (nice nic[X(])

I think this game is a good one to introduce you to the genre as to play it is fairly simple, mastering it is the hard part.

The NATO symbols and issues like that are not necessary to know to play it, they simply provide more interesting detail for those who know their battles and forces involved. In fact, the counters could have pacman on them and still play the same.

My recommendation when you get the game, is to play through the Guide that comes with the game, and helps explain the turorials. After that have a short game against the computer to see what you have learnt from the tutorials.

There are always pklenty of people around here on on other forums that are happy to help and play you via email.

Welcome to the genre. I look forward to whupping your ass to score some easy ladder points ;)

Actually, I'm just kidding I am actually crap [:(] Welcome anyway.

Haha. Thanks. I was hoping everyone would like the nic [:D] I appreciate the reply. I picked it up at compusa and am currently playing it. This is definitely the genre for me. I now plan on picking up all of matrix's games, if for nothing else than to keep them in business. haha. When I get my legs under me i will be glad to play anyone.
