ok so we had map problems with the last game and funkiwis russkies took quite a beating [:D] so now I'm the russkies and funkiwi gets to play the US forces... it's low vis again 12 and snow, Dec '45 and 5000 points to play with 10% arty & 2 air sections...
The Glorious peoples revolutionary army is on the move, no sign of any trouble. It's a big map that would be quite open if not for the Vis issue, however there's plenty of hills, forest at least 1 town and a big graveyard... It's a meeting engagement...

US tanks are in hiding, making sudden entrances to pop off the odd Russky MBT before vanishing into the snow.
SO infantry are coping a few rounds. I see they're sending the cannon fodder in. Won't worry too much about them. [:D]
Lightning has struck! Poor little horsies. Please don't tell animal welfare about that one. SO cavalry and a T-34 has been straffed by a Lightning a/c. Will lightning strike twice?

Looks like the reds are starting to spot our arty. A few bombs dropping close by, some shrapnel damage but nothing major. 2 recon troops KIA after one squad was assualted by a halftrack and an SMG squad, another by a T-34 and a cavalry squad. Smoke and retreat worked well and arty responded swiftly.

I lose two (count em! [:@]) of my air attack but not before knocking out one of the US mobile arty... otherwise only a small firefight with an enemy MG unit positioned overlooking a road... our arty falls hard and so does theirs!

An air raid by a couple of Shturms has bombed the crap out of a halftrack, but amazingly, it's still up and running. It hit back and did some damage, too. Unfortunately they incinerated one of our Priests. [:@] The war is rapidly becoming holy. The offending aircraft were promptly shot down by a combination of M15A1, 50cal AAMG and 37mm T32 fire (engineers gun).
A Red halftrack and SMG assualted one of our forward 30cal MGs but failed to take it out. The crew held on long enough for a Pershing to come to the rescue. Sniper fire pushed back the SMG while the halftrack was left a smoldering ruins. One of our halftracks recovered the 30cal and took them to a safe house somewhere in the East (that'll confuse him).
HEAVY arty rounds are falling on some of our forward positions with devastating effects. A retreat has begun.

despite a rather effective American air attack on our arty we press forward, we kill 2 Pershings (one with a flame tank which also blew in the duel) and the other with an air attack... This is very good for morale!
Our forces are beginning to enter the big town in the North which is infested with imperialists.

The Lightning air raid on SO arty did some damage and hopefully slowed down some of those heavy bombardments. It's pretty darn hard to hide Pershings and they're gradually getting picked off, but not without heavy cost to the reds, a couple more tanks down.
The infiltrator trap worked well yet again. A sniper spotted the soviet sappers. 2 shots, 2 kills. Give that man a medal! [;)] The sappers were milling around, stunned, when a halftrack jumped upon them, finishing them off.
Spotters are beginning to find nice juicy targets. I don't know how many more losses the reds can sustain, but they continue to assualt. We admire their courage.

Our arty is performing a rolling barrage so we're only shifting a hex or two each turn and that keeps the delay down to a bare minimum of only 1 or 2. Despite the air attacks the peoples artillery section is performing well.
The battle for the town has flushed a few more ranger teams out and we're also now attacking the rangers who have infiltrated our VH cluster.
BUT... [X(] the big news is that The Cossacks are coming... They're coming up the back of the map (US side) from the South and are going to charge through the rangers on their way to the front... I need a cossack song to sing! [:'(]

Soviet forces continue their assualt on the town, but they're making little headway and probably only hold a few buildings on the outskirts.
The battle for the central heights is a different story! A platoon of Rangers is valiantly defending the VH's. THey're under heavy fire and taking casualties, but they continue to hold fast. A sorty of a engineers, a halftrack and 2 Pershings, tried to reinforce them but ended up in a head to head firefight with 3 OT-34s! [8|] They knocked out one and dented another, but they've taken hits themselves and it will take real courage to hold their ground.
We haven't seen any of these so-called Cossacks yet - just a couple of prickly Tachankas. We think they're bluffing, but we'll send in a fresh squadron of Pershings, just in case.
