Cutting retreat routes

Post by spence »

Can a small detachment prevent the retreat of an enemy force from an adjacent hex under any circumstances? I kinda thought that the enemy had to "own" the hex to do this.

Yes. Small detachment can prevent 100x bigger force from retreating.

This is very "gamey" tactics and I have this forbidden in PBEMs I play using "House Rules".

Its been fixed in WitP so that units can withdraw into enemy hexes if the size of the force is a certain ratio.

well i must say thats completely UNrealisti

i mean think of it this way.......

its 1942...

jap and amerian fores are opposing eah other in New Guinea

suddenly, the japanese are forced to retreat

and then, disaster strikes

an amerian marine battalion bloks the retreat

but, the japanes walk right on by, and retreat, waving to the amerians, who obligingly do not fire on their retreating enemy

Problem is,

In many cases it is not a battalion, but a couple of squads. (60 guys airlifted using Mavis/PBYs to the dot behind)

Two squads blocking several retreating regiments?

I don't think so.

Maybe when you finally get a chance to play the game Marky, you will have some experience to frame your responses to these questions.
