Disappearing Replacements?

OK, I am in a PBEM game as the USN, and had 5 CVs sunk over 3 days in the summer of '42. Other than that, the game is going fine <g>, and we are now in mid-December. I had noticed that a lot of the destroyed carrier air groups were listed as returning as either "reinforcements" or as "withdrawn/disbanded" units on December 10, depending on whether they had any planes in them. Some had a few planes; all had a handful of pilots.

I knew from this forum that I should not expect these units to actually appear on the map when scheduled, although I was curious because some people seemed to say they did receive them. Anyway, on the appointed day, these air groups indeed did not appear. No harm, I think, that's what I expected.

Then I check my replacement aircraft, and see that, apparently, these groups which did not really appear DID suck most of my replacement F4Fs and SBD out of the replacement pool. Now, fair is fair, if I don't get the units, I shouldn't have to supply them with planes, right? And I am wondering if they sucked up my trained pilots as well.

Has anyone else experienced this? Bug or "undocumented feature"? Still present in WitP?

you raise an interesting point, I was unaware that they did suck up replacements. Can anyone else confirm this?
