Old graphics

Post by Fallschirmjager »

My HTTR just came in the mail.
When this game was first announced, I remeber reading that you could switch back to the old RDOA graphics. Is this true? And if so...how?

Here:

Go to the downloads section

I believe it tells you in the manual how to apply the textures. If not post again and someone can give you instructions

I cant decide

The new graphics make the forests and buildings look a whole lot better, but the old graphics make the roads and overall map id a whole lot quicker.
I cant decide which to use [:(]

Well, I play with the RDOA Classic Look. I prefer the high contrast nature of the map. Although I have posted a lot of screenies with the new graphics (I usually reset it before taking shots for publications), since I wanted to show off the new graphics and also not confuse anyone trying to understand my posts.

so you: save the game; "reset" the graphics; load the saved game; do the screenshots; re-"reset" the graphics; carry on play

my, that is dedication [&o]

It actualy only takes about 20 seconds to switch between the two.

The way I play, I take save games at all decision points and usually make an entry in my commander's log. So, later if I have the time and I think I have material worthy of exposition, then it's not big deal to load up various saves to illustrate particular points. The most time consuming aspect is writing the expository text.

so what format would one of your "commander's log" take? i.e. pen paper, spread sheet, what do you record etc. OK, so I guess I'm asking if you could post an example.

It's just a text file which I write. It will contain the following major sections:

Forces Analysis - An OOB derived by hand and some notes on reinforcement windows.

Objective Analysis - A look at point break downs, terrain, approaches, and anything else that seems central to guiding the formulation of a plan.

Planning - Summary list of main phases and timings; Detailed list of key actions to be addressed in each phase.

Log - A time stamped entry whenever orders are issued (other than bombards and airstrikes) and occassional time stamped comments on the flow of the battle.

Scenario Review - If played as part of beta testing a scenario ... (at times we test the game engine, but as the engine and features stabilize we turn our attention to testing the scenario) ... this will be a copy of my post on the beta forum. This usually contains my summary comments describing my plan, the results, what I thought of the scenario, and how the AI played (strengths and weaknesses).

---

I'll see if I can find a quick example for you.

Here are two example logs from the "Arnhem - Air Landing Assault" scenario played recently as both the Allies and the Axis. Don't expect much as these were not written for public consumption. It's mainly for myself: planning and taking notes helps me to improve my play. Also, I am not as young as I used to be (meaning clear mind and good memory) and my life has lots of interruptions.

I admit it. I am obsessed with planning and details. :)

I just got finished doing this one. (I wish HTTR had an in game OOB and battle planning facility. I guess it's on the wish list.)

{Yes, I know this isn't HTTR, but sometimes you just got to visit the troops on the front lines.}

CMBB

I have CM(BO, BB, AK). It's a nice change from HTTR when you want to see some 3D action and be in the thick of it. And HTTR is a nice change, when you don't want to have to tell every Tom, Dick, and Harry where to set up their MG position, but instead just issue orders and get it done.
