A problem with transports

Post by Koenig »

At Truk I've made a transport TF with 1000pts APs only.
If I order to load infantry and select a couple of AA units (cost 430pts), the TF loads them but forgets to load supplies, even if I've several ships. Exactly as I had ordered 'load troops only'. But I didn't.
With 2000 pts AP, AA units and supplies are loaded without problem.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
The fact is that I've tried this several times and I always get the same results: 1000pts APs refuse to load supplies along with AA unit, and force the same behaviour on all other transports in the TF.

Koenig,

I've also noticed that when I load small units (especilly on LST & LCI) that the unit is loaded immeadiately and the transports sit there idil. I then click load supplies and they start loading supplies. I've found that a good practice is to double check all transport TFs that i've told to load troops to make sure they are loading supplies as well.

Hope this helps

Great it worked! So it's important to watch the TF status (i.e. loading supplies) to avoid a bad surprise when at sea.

Thank you very much, Tanjman

Koenig,

Glad I was able to help, even though I hadn't finished this morning's first cup of coffee yet [>:]

one good thing to check is the op points. If the op points are less than 1000 for loading troops, then you know no supplies are going along.

Your problem is that when the unit chosen is too small, it is loaded immediatly and then there is not the automatic switch to load supplies, you have to do it yourself.

Once you have chosen the troops to load and returned to the TF screen, wtahc the status: if it is idle, all troops are allready aboard and you have to click on load supplies.

So from what I have read here, am I correct in assuming that u can load up an invasion force of troops and engineers and land it somewhere but it might have no supplies! Have be meaning to ask a question of how you prepare and execute a land invasion of enemy base. How are troops away from base supplied etc. Too focused on air/sea war so far! Any advice on this appreciated.

1. Form a transport TF with escorts.
2. Assign the leader you want.
3. Make sure that the TF settings are "retirement allowed - react - load troops (NOT load only troops).
4. Assign destination hex.
5. Select ground units to be loaded.

You will load troops and supplies to the maximum capacity of the TF. More instructions to follow after the TF leaves port and does frustrating things. One step at a time.

And I carry on anyhow.
