AI Missile Firing Solution does not consider stations as a blocking object?

AI Missile Firing Solution does not consider stations as a blocking object?

Post by Deathifier »

Hi,
Having just finished what I think was the best dynamic mission yet I do have one concern about the AI Missile firing solutions and the point defence weapon firing solutions when a large object happens to exist between you and your target.

What happens is that enemy carrier-launched fighters turn up at 100k and fire anti-ship missiles which are ignored by PDB's at full power on point defence. These normally hit, UNLESS something big is between you and the missiles. In this case I had Fort Talas between me and the missiles, and the missiles hit it.
At no point did the fighters move closer or around the circumference to fire at me.

The same happened with my PDB's, they tried to fire through Fort Talas at fighters launching.

I also noted the enemy missiles that hit the station did no damage, or so little I didn't notice (not even 1 integrity point).

This is the mission:

Basically I took my 7% damaged DD Radix for a trip to Jalah on its own, found Fort Talas where it normally is and proceeded to unload torpedo's and laser blasts into it. It launched fighters in response but they kinda mingled about before eventually getting toasted by the PDB cannons. One set did fire a salvo of anti-ship missiles but they hit the station...

Eventually there were no more fighters, and with my destroyer parked right in front of the launch bay no more would appear :)
I put faith in my rear PDB to take care of any anti-ship missiles that turned up.

Well after a few minutes of max. time accell I hear a series of thumps, hull drops to ~70% (shield was at max when they hit) but, uh, well nothing works anymore... turns out *every* missile hit my main or aux reactor, cutting power output in half, knocking out the aux reactor and causing the power allocation system to shove all items on the aux. reactor to the main. Of course they had no power, the shield now consuming all of it to maintain the 41% strength in case any more missiles turned up...
I could also not move, but that was creatively solved when I moved the drive system to batteries ;)

So my crippled cruiser slowly moved away and around the other side of the station and proceeded to try and repair the reactors. A few minutes later everything was back online and I moved lasers and PDB's to aux. and sensors to batteries (which didn't work too well judging by the periods of functional radar) and proceeded to slowly destroy the station.

This was working well, it even launched more fighters who wound up driving into part of the structure and several salvo's of anti-ship missiles were fired from my enemy carrier-launched friends at 100k away - but they all hit the structure!
I think only one Fort Talas fighter (which doesn't show up on the force screen) hit me with another anti-ship missile.

At some point an enemy frigate turned up and spoiled things. I didn't notice it was a frigate until it started shooting me and the scanner came back to life (briefly, before it was knocked out). Well it turned away just as I turned around and, since it didn't raise its shields, X-Ray lasers tore it up pretty fast.

Another batch of repairs and my ship was looking in rather poor shape, but using what I had now ascertained as a bug that prevented any fighters from shooting me I took Fort Talas to 5 integrity before jumping out and finishing the job in another mission from 70k away :)

And that was that, very cool, very fun but at the same time exposing a not terribly critical bug.

True, but Fort Talas is unique in its size, and you are specifically not supposed to destroy it, umm. [8D]
@TheDeadlyShoe> Unless, say, you could make black holes at will.
@Razeam> I can do that but I don't want to.

It's red, it dies!

I must admit it takes a massive amount of punishment though, particularly when everything on your starship has been smashed up.
