im starting to wonder....

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

im starting to wonder....

Post by Static »

...if the almost mythical 8.2 will EVER see the light of day? I've actually stopped playing SPWAW completely while im waiting for the new end-all-be-all version to come out because i have great faith in Matrix's ability to improve on an already fantabulous game. but...again...how long can it take? im also very worried that this deafening silence from matrix is destroying the amazing community of designers and war history buffs who consider this forum a home of sorts. i just wonder if matrix is even aware of whats happening here. seeing Jess tap out for good was really a shock to me...ive been playing his scenarios and campaigns since i first discovered the game. it makes me wonder how many loyal members matrix is willing to sacrifice before they at least give us an update on the status of 8.2? [&:] [:(]

just some thoughts from another concerned forum lurker

quite honestly I dont know.....i havent seen a post on the SPWAW forum from anyone affiliated with matrix (besides KG Erwin) in quite a while

maybe they forgot? or maybe theres a huge surprise about to be unleashed upon the SPWAW community? i guess if they told us it wouldnt be a surprise anymore.... [8|]

Static, we've heard, "This new version is going to be awesome." before.

Why you would stop playing SPWAW v7.1, v8.01 or H2H.fr in anticipation of this new incarnation is beyond me. If you are a casual player, I doubt you'll notice any difference when v8.2 comes out. I play SPWAW ALOT and other than the color changes in the game and the real screwup of the point value system, I hardly notice any difference from v7.1 to v8.01.

So, start playing and stop worrying about when MG will get its ..it together and when MG will stop yanking us around.

ofcourse the reverse applies as well...with a bit of luck Matrix learned to keep their mouth closed about any (free) updates all together until such a time they can lay down a finished product.

Yes, indeed.
Why wait?
Why not simply enjoy the version you last downloaded for free?

I have a dozen pbem's on the go and enjoying most of them.

Any of you notice that the Brits in 1944 can't do squat?
My British tanks seem ineffectual against anything, even motorcycle squads.

Makes me wonder how they defeated the German army in Normandy.[:'(]
They struggled with a ferocity that was to be expected of brave men fighting with forlorn hope against an enemy who had the advantage of position......knowing that courage was the one thing that would save them.

yep. i also think the brits are poor in the game.

but in 44 they have some good stuff.

but in 42 + 43 to play brits against germans is
a difficult task IMHO.

if playing british historical they should have 4-5
air available ( against german zero ) + double the amount of arty
of the germans, also some coastal bombardement.

I recently finished playing Brits all the way through the WWII campaign - Battle of France, North Africa, Sicily, Italy, D-Day and beyond. I kept the structure of the infantry companies 'historical' (had my platoon HQs and 2" mortars to the end) and found that you can defeat superior quality forces by adapting your tactics to fit the weapon systems available. Two good books to read are "The Guns of War" by George Blackburn (a Canadian, but covers some Brit doctrine) and "With the Jocks" by Peter White, a platoon commander in a Scottish rifle company. These gave me good insights into British tactical use of armour and 'weapons sections' (platoon HQ in SP:WaW) - they work in SP:WaW.
