Ah, memories [:'(]

I loved all the Commodore stuff, I had a C64, Amiga 500 and Amiga 3000. All of which pissed on early PC/MS-DOS/EArly Windoze machines until the mid-nineties.

There was something wonderful with the C64 (and the earlier PET, come to that) - you could just turn it on, straight into BASIC and actually PROGRAM the thing... I still miss that.

I digress.. that Tandy price was extortionate.. [:-]

"high resolution graphics" = 320 x 200. [:D]

Seriously though, I loved it. All my friends had one, and I had a C=128. And later an Amiga500.

I STILL have an Amiga 500 ... [8D]

As I recall, at the time "high resolution" referred to the capability to address individual pixels. Before then, you could only use blocks (essentially character blocks) using the appropriate ASCI code.

The first computer game I played was Star Trek - for a PDP-11, and using ASCII graphics. [:D]

In 1977, I had a Commodore Pet, and I used to dream of having 64K of memory! It stored data on a Radio Shack tape reader. And I remember when I got an Osborne. Wow! Two floppy disks with 100K each! Earlier I was probably one of the first to have an Altair in 1974, the first "personal" computer with 1K of memory that I saw advertised in Byte magazine! (I still have it, since it is probably a museum piece, along with 8-inch floppies that I got for it later).

Later I paid $10,000 for a NEC with two 8-inch floppies and a resolution of 1000x1000 color pixels, much more than any other machine! Unfortunately it did not support any programs except its own, the only program that supported the resolution was a demo, so I used it for years as a Unix terminal in my lab. And I remember paying $5000 for 32K of memory for an old Alpha 16 Unix machine that I had to bootstrap with paper tape (no ROM).

Ah yes, the good old days...
