Newb questions

Post by Grotius »

I'm really enjoying HTTR, but I have a couple of newb questions:

1. If I've given direct orders to a subunit or subunits of an HQ, what happens when I later give orders to the HQ itself? Do the units with direct orders ignore what the superior HQ is doing? If so, I assume I need to cancel the subunits' orders before ordering the HQ?

2. The manual says I control an objective if I have 10x the opposing force. Er, I assume that refers not to raw numbers of personnel, but to unit power, right?

3. Suppose neither side has 10x as many as the other. I assume then that neither side gets VPs for it, right? I noticed that one contested location in my first game was sort of gray. Is there a way to check how many VPs the bad guys have?

4. For that matter, is there a way to check how many total VPs I have? Or do we just rely on the "win" meter?

Thanks!

Welcome to the community!

Regarding your questions ...

Q1: If the sub-unit has received orders from you, then you have formed a new force. Define force as one unit with possibly subordinates that are under the player's direct control. The unit to which you gave the order is now dettached from its former organic or dynamic superior. Orders to either the organic or dynamic former superior will now have no impact upon it.

To terminate your direct control of a unit, either group it as part of another selection where it is not the most senior unit and issue a new order, or hit the reattach button under orders (to reestablish its organic superior attachment).

Q2: I am not sure.

Q3: I am not sure.

Q4: You may add up your current point totals using the side bar, but you have no way of knowing what the enemy's totals are or even if the enemy's scoring criteria are symmetrical; they need not be. In the final AAR, you will see the points for each side, but still not have the derivation used for the enemy.

Additionally, the WinMeter at times can be misleading. I believe it was stated recently that in HTTR the WinMeter does not take into consideration occupation points; only destruction and completion points.

---

I hope that helps.

On Q2, I'm not sure, but I think it refeers to raw numbers, not taking into account neither quality, firepower or whatever.

However you can prove it making some rtials with the scenario maker. But it will save time if the developers tell us :D

On Q3, noone will get points if an objective is contested and any side dos not have the 10x superiority. About the grey thing, I don't know if I have misunderstood you, but maybe that's because the begining hour for that objective hasn't been reached yet. You can't check how much VP the enemy have, only at the end of the game you can (in AAR screen).

1. Yes the units with direct orders ignore the superior HQ orders until the moment you reattach them again.

2. Not sure, but I believe it has to do something with fire/combatpower. One of the other Betatesters or Panthergames can probalyl answer this.

3. That's right. Noone gets the points for it.

4. You can use the sidebar; the Objs tab.

Thanks for the reply. Yep, I've been using the Obj sidebar; it's just odd that it doesn't total the points for me or list the enemy's points. Not a big deal; I can add mine up in my head, and I can often see for myself what the enemy does and does not possess.

Doh, thanks for the info on detaching. I read that ten times in the manual but didn't really absorb it. Now I get it. :)

A good way to just get more familiar with how interface works is to turn off order delays and load up a small scenario. Don't seriously play the game ... just form forces and give orders ... see how the units behave see what the unit info box displays ... etc. Once you got the interface down, then play it for real. :)

Re Q2. It's based on AperFP not PersQty.

Oops just realised I'm using the coding variable names. Take 2. It's based on anti-personnel firepower not personnel quantity. [:)]
