Mining my own bases

Post by color »

I'm trying to lay mines in one of my own bases, but I cannot get the 'Mine ops will be executed in the hex' message that I normally get when clicking on another non-base hex. The destination is not the home base of the ML's. Am I doing this correctly, and will the ships go and lay mines even though this message does not appear? If not how do I proceed to lay mines in my own (and enemy) bases?

Thanks,
Jorgen

Beats me. My first guess is that you don't have mines on your ML. They can only be resuppied from one of the main bases. (Truk, Brisbane, etc)

But, it can be done. I did it last night. [:)]

Good luck,

Set the base as the destination, set to "retirement allowed". You won't get the message but they will lay mines. You may need to set a different home base than the one you are trying to mine...

The ships in the TF has mines . . . clicking on a non-base hex sets the destination and displays the 'mine ops will be conducted in hex' message, clicking on a base hex sets destination but no message is set. . .

I've tried clicking around inside the edges of the hex but I can never seem to get the message.

You don't get that message. Just make sure you have mines loaded and set the TF for retirement allowed. It will drop
mines at the destination hex. BTW, you can use patrol/do not retire to NOT set mines. That is useful for the short legged minelayers since you can refuel and then send them to mine without running out of fuel.

Don't feel bad, color. Mines threw lots of folks for a spin.

Items to note (sorry if I'm repeating things from above):

1. set "retirement allowed" for mine laying
2. ensure mines are on board
3. set another base as the home port
4. set the target base as destination
5. remember you'll have to return to Noumea/BB (or Truk) to restock mines
