air operation penalties

Post by Hartley »

There is something about a carrier TF suffering from air operation disadvantages when in a port hex, right ?

But is that the only type of hex where this happens ?

I'm fairly sure if the AirCombat TF is -disbanded- in a port hex, your aircraft will not fly. I know there had been some considerable discussion tho, about penalizing CVs for operating in shallow/coastal hexes tho. Not sure if that was implemented or not. I know you -can- launch AC while in coastal hexes (including ports, as long as you're not disbanded); and frankly, I didn't see much (if any) degradation in capability.

When a CV TF is in a port, base or dot hex (either friendly or enemy), air operations are reduced by 50%. The purpose of this is to simulate that full CV planes operations need open sea to be fully efficient.

It seems to me that CVE operating in transports TF operate at normal rate even in a port-dot hex, so they are useful to provide CAP over an invasion fleet.
