Will COTA have an updated Scenario maker?

Post by stall84 »

Specifically with the ability to modify Estabs.
The map maker is excellent, but what would really be nice is the ability to recreate Estabs from any time in the war.
For example it would be nice to be able to create Panzer Divisions from 1939 with Pzr 1's 2's etc.
This way the battle you chose to create could be taken from anywhere in world war 2
Would be nice at least ;)

Nope. That would be like giving away the farm don't you think? [;)]

Look at it this way: we will be introducing at least one major new gameplay feature with each release, plus the usual host of more minor changes with each as well.

I don't own HTTR (I've just played the AA demo), so I was wondering what the editors for this series are like. One of the reasons I'm attracted to CoTA is the involvement of early-war German armoured formations but I wondered whether in Greece their potential would be somewhat blunted by the mountainous terrain. I'm interested in creating some hypothetical scenarios where they get a chance to move and fight against Commonwealth forces in some open terrain. Does this sound possible?

For that matter, is it possible to do something similar in HTTR to, say, simulate a major Allied armoured attack in good terrain against a hastily prepared defence (or vice versa[:D])? If so I might get it after all.

Neilster, you can do all of what you want, if you are willing to create your own maps. The Estabs (formations) included in HTTR wil allow you to do as you outline... however it only includes Estabs for British Armoured units.. no American Armored in that one. But the Brits are still Allies are they not? [;)] American & British Airborne are included, as are some other minor nation formations... not to mention, more than enough German units to re-create almost any German motorized or infantry formation from late 44 on.

For COTA, you could probably set up some early war Commonwealth v. German or Italian battles quite easily on a user created map.

True!

I'm taking it a step further and creating faux American units by re-orging the Brit estabs into American OOBs. Not accurate, but a step closer.

Ah, but where to get good 1:50,000 maps of Belgium and northeastern France... My region is short on Libraries of the type that have these on hand.

Not to be greedy, but would it be possible to export the Reinforcement tables to Excel at some point? Although straightforward and easy to use, this tool is tedious and somewhat labor intensive....

Cheers!

Thanks very much Bil. British armour will do fine. "Tally ho chaps and all that. Looks like being a wizard show. Last one in Berlin's a dirty rotter" etc etc. I suspected that the game TO@E were all one had to work with.

You mentioned German motorised units. Are there actually any German tanks in the game? Also, do the units come "as is" or can their organic equipment be modified? I was thinking of adding tougher equipment to those skeletal Jerry Kampfgruppen.

Are we talking about HTTR or COTA here? In either case there are heaps of German tanks - check out the template scenarios in HTTR and you'll find complete organisations for a Wehrmacht Panzer Division, SS Panzer Division, and Wehrmacht Panzer Brigade - if you start editing a scenario by opening the template, changing the map and saving it under a different name, when you reopen it you'll see the new map and you'll be able to drop these German tank units on to the map with no further effort involved. If you want a different unit than the ones provided (Pz Div 2, SS Pz Div 1, and Pz Brig 107) you'll have to rename the units and adjust their attributes but that's about it.

In COTA there will be Wehrmacht Panzer Divisions, the SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler Brigade (motorised infantry with some SP guns), and Pz Abt zBV 66 - the special-purpose panzer battalion with special equipment, intended for the attack on Malta.

Re: modifying equipment, you can't change the equipment in an estab (unit strength in the game is just the estab strength multiplied by the strength percentage set in the ScenMaker) but you can change a unit to use a different estab. So you could take a company from KG Krafft, for example, and turn it into a Tiger II company if you wanted.

Thanks Golf. I was talking about HTTR. COTA is a definite buy when it comes out. I might wait for the updated HTTR now (If that ever happens).
