Fansites? New scenarios?

Post by wodin »

Are there any others except drop zone?

Also will COTA be an expansion or full price game?

I dont know whether i should purchase HTTR or wait for COTA.

I already have RDOA which has put me off buying HTTR. But Im slowley coming around.

COTA is a full price game not an expansion pack. Price is US$60. COTA won't be available for several months yet. We still have a bit to do when we get back from our trip to the US. So don't wait. Buy HTTR now. It is so much more than just RDOA with extra maps and scenarios. It has a plethora of new features and AI enhancements. As one guy at the Matrix stand at Origins said to me yesterday that he had read a lot about HTTR but it wassn't until he saw it in action that he really appreciated how awsome the game was. [:)]

Well, as Dave is the 'head honcho' at Panther he would say 'buy it!'. I was one of the sceptics until I acquired HTTR and it has more depth and variation in the gameplay than RDOA. On top of that you have the extra scenarios and units which add further to the experience. I'd recommend it!

Ive just ordered HTTR.

Though Ive just played the second tutorial of RDOA.

And I just find the game lacking in excitement for some reason.

I hope I havent made a mistake buying HTTR.

Im playing KP a lot now and find it far more exciteing than RDOA.

Oh well I think I shouldnt have gone and spent money I havent tolsd the missus yet and I will feel real bad if I dont like it.

wodin I think you will like HTTR. IMO it is far better then RDOA, I have that also. I also have KP and it is a very good game but HTTR has pretty much replaced KP for me.

The biggest thing I like about HTTR is that the units show actual equipment and men. For me this is a huge part of wargaming. I like to see what I have available and what is left after an engagement. When you add in the campaign system of COTA you will have to becareful of how you use your forces and how hard you press them.

HTTR is also at Company level which I find vastly improved over RDOA.

I only played the demo of RDOA, and it didn't wow me so I never bought it. But I'm loving HTTR! The attention to detail is pretty impressive, as is the command-and-control system. You really feel like you're commanding troops.

Explain how the difference in unit scale helps with the game in HTTR.

In RDOA your main fighting forces were battalions. So a Regiment basically had 2-3 battalions with 1-3 support platoons. An attack covered a large area. Also, if you just wanted to attack with one battalion you basically had just one unit to maneuver.

In HTTR a battalion now has unit representation of the Battalion HQ, 3-4 Companies and 1-3 support platoons. The number represented depends on the country you're playing. So now a Battalion attack gives you a lot more options. Separate a Company to recon the area. When you find the enemy you can command just the Battalion and let it do all the work or separate a Company and come from another angle. I also like to separate the mortar platoon and control them myself for fire support.

This one change in the game made HTTR a completely different game IMO. It's a blast now to watch your Battalion attack with 3 Companies abreast or two up and one back. You also have several other options.
