Fatal error 772

Post by Splinterhead »

I have tried running WITP on two different computers now and have gotten 772 fatal errors on both machines. Also when I tried to register the game I got the message " cannot register key". [:(]

A bit of detail would be helpful.

What operating system? Hardware configuration?

That error is related to verification of the serial number.

Sonny, find where you installed the code.

Look for the sound directory and rename it to oldsound instead.

This will completely eliminate sound. See if that makes the problem go away.

We don't have the code yet so just blind troubleshooting ...

Yeah, that seems to be it. Game seems to go fine without the sound.

Thanks.

Please update your sound drivers and follow Marc's How-To on direct-x troubleshooting.

Also, if you know what type of sound card you have inside the Dell, post it's info so others with the same card will know that they too will have a problem possibly.

I get that error message on my old clunker that has Windows98SE and an old Creative SB Live!. I installed an update but it says the driver is still dated 1999. I plan on running the game on my laptop anyway and using my clunker to read the PDF's while I play.

Did we leave out the note that said copy over your sound directory from your UV directory in the build instructions again? [:D]

It is a Sound Blaster Audigy Audio. Tried to update the driver but ran into problems. If anyone has the same sound card and has successfully updated the driver let me know how you did it.

Hmm, I've got a Audigy/2 here, works like a charm. Are you using the drivers from Creative or the ones built into XP?

It says it is ctaud2k.sys 3/26/03.
I tried the download at Dell for my card and it says it corrects the "Welcome screen". When I run it it does not update the driver - at least accordint to DxDiag. Then when I boot my system I get the message: Ordinal 1865 could not be located in IML32.dll.

EDIT: got the latest driver (2/23/04) and still have the problem.[:@]

Hmm ...

See the slider here within DXDIAG? Slide it to the left to Basic or Off and see if it helps. I'm wondering about your driver version though.

Tried that and it gave me funny sounds and still crashed anyway.
Though I can't remember if I tried it with the old driver or the new one. I'll check it out when I get home.

Thanks for the help. I'll get it straightened out eventually.

Hi Sonny,

I've just updated my Audigy driver, using the auto driver function on the creative web site and the driver I have installed is version 5.12.0001.0441 dated 8/10/2003 which looks later than yours ?

One thing of interest too, and this might be a reach is motherboard... There's a few types that have REAL problems with the older Audigy 1 soundcards. Realtek Motherboards from MSI are one of them. I have an Athlon board from them and had to upgrade my old Audigy 1 to a 2. Works now but would have been really troublesome had I kept my older Audigy 1...

I admit, it's a reach, but it might be compatibility at that level too that's causing problems.
