Duh! The first official release KIA!

Umm, you know, you should probably have some big red flashing lights in the docking bay for people who fly too fast! [:(]

A "Wave off! Wave off!" sound file would be good too [:D]

Hehe, been there, done that... It would be nice if the tutorial mentioned the slower speed needed for the arcade flying mode though. [;)]

Oh? Is that what it was? Teach me for running in arcade mode instead of plugging in the joystick [:D]

There is a bug in the demo related to landing in arcade mode. It is fixed in the final release. As long as you are under 100 m/s relative to the landing bay or runway, you should be ok in any flight model.

If that's still a problem, try selecting "Easier Landings" in the gameplay options screen.

I got a slow motion cut scene as I flew into the wall and blew up ... might have been the wrong landing bay too.

I promise to look at the manual one day soon [:D]

FYI, in the release version, I find that less than 30-40m/s is still advisable for the arcade mode. I've had a few instances where my craft continues and smacks the wall during the landing sequence when below 100 m/s.

I hate to say I don't believe you, but I just now re-tested this and it seems to be working. When you dock with a carrier, at the moment the magnetic docking clamp grabs you, your ship should come to a dead halt no matter how fast you were going. The top of the screen should read "DOCKING SEQUENCE COMPLETE". If you actually do manage to slam your fighter into the bulkhead, it's because you missed the docking point entirely and the clamp never grabbed hold of you. The secret is to aim directly for the X icon that marks the docking point. Line that up right on your gun cross and resist the urge to steer too much as you approach.

Please let me know if this continues to trouble you, or anyone else.

(Maybe Starshatter is more like Falcon 4.0 than I thought...)

John,

Thanks, I'll try again with your advice and see if my aim was off. I appreciate the detailed help.

But the X is embedded in the floor and I keep thinking my fighter's going to end up embedded in there too. [:D]

I just try to stay in the middle of the flight deck and it always works for me, but I only play on the standard flight model.

Go slow, when cutscene engages cut to zero throttle.

If you keep going past where the docking point is, do a 180, burn away and try again :)

Mind you I land like most people drive - full speed until the last minute then screech to a halt (most of the time)!

This is in arcade too ;)

Actually I used to have this problem

if you DO fly in fast enough(like full burn) the auto dock wont get you, but, I mean we are talking like 1000m/s or something, at that speed all the deck crew can do is kiss their asses goodbye as you slam into the ship and send it sky high

Hehe, I did that too ;)
Not the first time but I was going 300m/sec and went hurtling in upside down.

Straight over the docking clamps and into the wall!

Was a very cool cutscene though ;)
