It IS awesome.. I survived Pearl harbo with no BB sunk and 4 seriousl damaged but able to steam to San Fran under their own power by 12/17 2 were less than 10 sys and are headed West!

but my god.. it is SO detailed and invovled.. it's PacWar writ large! I sat for 20 minutes jus staring at the screen wondering where to start

this is definately NOT UV.. even tho is may look similar..

great game, but a learning curve as steep as the cliffs of Dover for a newbie.. and I have played UV since it released and it;s been uphill for me

Prince of Wales and Repulse destroy the Konga and Haruna, but are then themselves destroyed by cruisers, proving once again that even in the face of enemy air power, battleships are still the queens of the seas. [;)]

I haven't even gotten out of turn 1. I've been taking the manual, slowly reading, mocking up orders and such. It's not so hard that way.

You're right, though. This ain't PacWar or UV; it's both rolled together on steroids after shooting H and snorting coke.[:D]

I suckered myself into doing an AAR over at Paradox (no flames or else! that's GD stuff and there's already a thread to use). I'm hoping to finish by 2006.[:'(]

I'm really, really impressed..

I was just expecting UV with a bigger map (yeah, yeah, I'm a cynical 'ol SOB) but, the gameplay feels 100% better...combat results that I've seen so far look really good, and, to think..this is the rough, early, pre-patched version.....Man, well worth the wait, and the work.

Congrats 2by3!

Definitely not a play-by-experiment game. There's not a single key that leads you to do anything once ingame. I experimented and picked the time from the default of "1" to "3", assuming that to be 3 days. Well it rolled into 12/11/41 and I realized that it must not mean that. Couldn't figure out either how to get it to stop, except bringing it down by Windows. I at least figured the esc. key was bypassing a lot of displays. I hope I don't have to try to print the manual from this thing to try to get oriented the quickest, but that may happen as going through an online manual that I can only view at that one computer is quite a delay. I wonder if Matrix would consider putting the manual on the website somewhere? That way I wouldn't have to print it anytime soon, and I can still review it away from home.

It is awesome in scale, detail, and everything else. I'm nearly overwhelmed with the scope of what there is to manage, but loving every minute of it! I cannot imagine playing the Japanese side yet.

Thanks Matrix & 2 by 3! This one will NEVER come off the hard drive.

This is great. I'm still getting used to the differences between WitP and UV, especially the scale. I managed to lose Coral Sea because my carriers went north too fast. [:'(]

I have to agree, Matrix et al have REALLY impressed me with this game! Not far into it for sure but the attention to detail, obtions available, and sheer volume of WELL thought out possiblities is fantastic. EXCELLENT job Matrix crew and testers!

BTW 4 BB's lost at pearl and 2 more hurting. DAMN JAPS.

I agree my hats off to Matrix. This game is all that imiagined. BTW no battleships sunk but 6 heavly damaged along with three crusiers, a submarine, and an AO. Lost all of the airforces there, I have a total of 6 planes flying in Pearl the day after. Heck of a day for the Japs!!!

"Freaking awesome" does indeed sum it up well. Holy crap. This is the mother of all wargames.

Hehe, at my Pearl Harbor, I lost the BB Tennessee and sustained moderate to heavy damage to five other BB's, including the Arizona, as well as a couple DDs. And now, I have absolutely no clue what to do next. I love it! Time to do the tutorial and some shorter scenarios, I guess. :-)

I'm still on the tutorial! [:@]

I've never played UV or Pac War. Have I bitten of more than I can chew? Not bloody likely. I've got a big mouth. I can chew a lot! [:D]

Kind of a change of pace from an RTS isn't it??? [:)]

Long-time gamer, first time caller here.

I'll admit that I balked at the price . . . $69.99, or $79.99 w/a cd was WAY to expensive for me. I just couldn't justify that expense to myself for just "a game."

However the incredible first impressions are causing me to reconsider. Maybe I'll wait for the boxed edition to come out in Aug(?). Yeah, yeah, I'm a traditionalist.

AA:HTTR & the Combat Mission series will keep me plenty busy until then.

You can wait? (stunned look)
Really?

I got it yesterday, had only time to play one turn, and am printing the manual as we speak.
Also loaded the manual into my palm device so I can look at it while you know where.[;)]
