Thursday Island

Post by Don Bowen »

Thursday Island is on the wrong side of the Torres Strait. It should be at the North tip of Australia, at 48-51.

C-46 Commando

Post by Arnir »

There are no C-46 Commando transport aircraft in the game. (As far as I can tell). Thousands were used by the USAAF in the war, and they were used extensively in "The Hump" air cargo routes in the CBI.

See this thread for discussion: tm.asp?m=642084

for example: the 4th Combat Cargo Group in the editor is all C-47s.

According to this website http://www.comcar.org/4th_ComCar/4th_co ... _group.htm all 4 squadrons of the 4th CCG (13th to 16th CCS) were equipped with C-46s. This is only an example. It looks like 1-3 CCG are correct. Beyond this, I'm not sure who used what.

1. I think Trincomalee is spelled wrong on the map. It is spelled "Trimcomalee" on the map, with an m instead of an n.

2. I think Lihue (in Hawaii) was spelled "Lihu" on the game map. Most spellings I see are Lihue or maybe Lihu'e.

Grotius is right.

Lihu should be Lihue.

In addition (all in the Hawaiian Islands):

Lokai should be Lanai.

Molokai is spelled correctly on the map, but the base screen has the name wrong (Moloaki).

Nihau should be Niihau.

No Tabbys (L2d2) in the game, considered by Japanes Navy to be their most important type of Transport, over 500 Built and or in service during the war, for Japan this is a lot.

..................................

The Alcan Highway seams to run to Jeauno Alaska, and No road ever ran nor does run to Jeano Alaska, In Fact the Alcan Highway does not anywhear near the coat it ran from Montania through Canada up the East side of BC to the SE corner of the Youkon Teritiry then over to Alaska, at no time was near the Coast. Also it apears that Prince Rupert is not on the road, or perhaps I just misread it on the map, Prince Rupert was conected to the rest of Canada by Road and Rail links.

I asume the Alcan is not realy usable until it's Historical compleation date corect?

.......................

No Warlrus Aircraft type in the Game, this is some waht of an issue since the British ships seam compleatly devoid of search aircraft as a result.

.....................

Thier are of course literly Thousands of planes and ships Not modeled in WiTP, from both sides, but I am at this point not teriably concerned with all the finner details of this, I will try and point out only the realy obvious and glaring absences, a few of which I have posted above.

Hawaii Five-O is right about Niihau (not Nihau) and Lanai (not Lokai). I almost posted about those too, but I thought maybe I was missing something.

Sorting the a/c by type doesn't work within the a/c database in the game. You can sort it alpha & by all the other stats but not type. Minor glitch/wish list thing. Also what about having a listing somewhere within the databases of the different ground & ship radar types & stats.

34th FS (1049), 36th BS (1458), and 73rd BS (1460) are all coded as groups, not squadrons and have too large maximum sizes.

One curiousity I noted while reading the manual about CV air groups was that they would start out with roughly 1/3rd of each type of aircraft at the start of the war, then go to ...

3/8ths fighter, 3/8ths SBD, and 3/8ths TBD... Isn't that 9/8ths? I know it's minor, but I got to wondering if there's something in the coding about that which would bring about "overloaded" carriers late in the war.

Minor, as I said, but thought I'd bring it up. Will be watching for others... GREAT GAME Matrix... [8D] I have a feeling I'll be saying that A LOT!!!

The early war loadout actually leaves space on the CV's.

Later they filled in the space with extra fighters.

Later still, they reduced strike and again increased fighters.

Don't worry, you will not have CV's unflyable unless you start sticking other air groups on them. These changes through time are for the CV air wings, they will not adjust the non-CV air wings that you happen to stick on CV's.

British Empire Corrections.

#1. Malaya Command:

A) All Bases in Malaya should be under this command, and not Southeast Asia.

B) All Units/HQs in Malaya should be under Malaya Command or III Indian Corps command, not Southeast Asia.

#2. Aircraft HQs:

A) All Air Squadrons should be under the command of one of the Aircraft Groups (221 Group, 223 Group or 224 Group) not Southeast Asia.

#3. Aircraft:

A) Hurricane II should be Hurricane IIB equipped with 8x .303 Brownings now 4x 20mm Guns

B) Walrus should be added, and given to RN BB, CA, CL capable of recon aircraft. Every other nation has their ships equipped with recon aircraft except for the British. This is a major penalty on them, as the capability to scout out enemy fleets is limited.

#4. Equipment:

A) The Vickers Mark VI Light Tank should be added, and equipped with the Indian Tank Brigades, not Grant or Stuart tanks (Grant tanks have not yet been sent to England at this point, and Stuart tanks were only in North Africa until the arrival of the 7th Armoured Brigade)

#5. Ships

A) The Queen Elizabeth and Valiant should be equipped with 20x 4.5" DP guns, instead of the 6" SP and 4" DP guns.

B) The King George V class should have their aft 14" Batter facing the rear, instead of forward.

Yeah? Well don't "P" here, please.

I assume you all have already added to the list the misspelling of Guadalcanal on the map. Heck, I forgot to check last night; the game may have been released with the proper spelling! Forgive me if this is moot.

Not that big of a deal but the letter F for Foochow should be white and not yellow.

Hi all,

The Ki-21 & Ki-48 are still reversed in value. The Ki-21 should have '12' mnvr while the Ki-48 should have '19'.
I commented on this in UV days but it seems to have been missed. Also, i am adding the Ki-48-1 & Ki-48-2 to the game. You seemed to have amalagated an average, but they were totally different and the second did not come out till after the war started.

Ki-431b should have 1-30cal & 1-50cal machine gun. That was by far the most common armament used. And it was correct in UV.

The Mavis should have an armour factor of '0'.

The Nell's durability should be higher than the Betty. The Nell was known for coming home with massive battle damage, the betty was not. The Jap crews liked the Nell better.
The Ki-49 should probably have a lower mnvr, maybe a '15' or '16'.

Why is the N1K floatplane not in the game? It was much better than the Rufe and a fair amount were produced.

Where is the ASW Q1W Lorna? The Japanese used 140 of these in '44-'45.

The A20b had no armour and was considered unfit for frontline combat use by the USAAF. A few did fight in Australia/New Guinea but that was it.

B18 Bolo's -max- bombload should be 4400lbs.
B17's & B24's are a bit overloaded as well. While it is true that especially the B24 could lift large loads it killed their range. The standard load was 4000lbs for the B17 & 6000lbs for the B24.

The B26b did have 130 or so aircraft completed with 4 extra .50cals in the nose for strafing but because the B26 was used at medium altitudes in the Pacific most of the extra gun planes were sent to Europe. Should only be 1 gun in the nose. Besides, 130 out of the several thousand b's and c's built is a drop in the bucket.

Barracuda's should probably have armour.

339d's should have zero armour, 2-50's & 2-30's and a max speed of 344mph. Probably 31 or 32 mnvr.

The Buffalo 1 should have 324 mph speed, about 29 mnvr.

The F2 i guess is representing both the A2 & A3. I know this is minor but they were very different aircraft. The A2 was faster, more maneuverable and unarmoured. This was the plane still in use on US carriers at war start.
The A3 was only used by the Marines because the Navy hated it, was slower, 302mph or so, less maneuverable, but with armour.

The F4f3 IMHO should not have armour as only 41 received the armour mod kits in the war which essentially turned them into 4 gun F4f4's. Just an opinion.

Devestators should have no armour.

P39d should have a top speed of 360mph. Probably a better maneuver value as well. But that is just me.
Many of our negative views of the P39 come in fact from the P400 which was equipped for the British oxygen system but then the planes were used by the USAAF. Dale Brannon noted that without oxygen above 11,000ft was pretty much impossible.

And where is the improved P39N? or Q?

Did you guys look up the wrong info on the Firefly? It was not a god but jeeze you killed it!
[;)][;)]
The top speed should be 384mph, probably 30mnvr, 30 durability, 1 armour.

The P35A should have no armour.

Hawk75A, no armour.

The P40E should have a higher durability than the 'N'. The P40N was the last attempt to lighten the plane so the airforce would use it. The plan failed. But it was lighter in many respects including a thinner skin.

P51B travels at 440mph if made in California and the 'c' traveled at 439mph from Texas. Probably the 'b' should be more maneuverable as well.

Just started the UV campaign.
I was looking in the allied ship release and saw an AV and 2 subs that have no name and port of destination is Truk. These are IJN assets in the wrong place.
