Hmm. Why is this taking so long?

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

I hope Matrix isn't spending valuable time, money and effort just to give the game a shiny polished look? The last few builds from the old Marinacci site were practically complete mechanics-wise (granted, I didn't play the board version, but I've read the rules that accompanied the beta builds). I understand that AI development would take an awful lot of time, but still...at the very least we could use a bit more information. I also hope the game isn't getting "cut" to a point where it resembles World at War more than the original boardgame. Not that Matrix would do that, but we don't have any information to the contrary.

From what I know the old one didnt have AI, which is the hardest thing to code, and the most time consuming.

People need to separate the old Wif with the new...as DM said, the AI needs to be done before this game will be released, and that will take some time to complete....

My understanding from a post by Robert Crandall it looks like they are going to shift into WiF mode after Flashpoint: Germany is completed. With all the years waiting for this game, I'm not panicking yet.

Not that there are that many threads to look at. [:)]

Why is it taking so long?

Good question but more importantly (to me anyway) is "How long is SOON?". I mean the web site says "More Information Soon" and thats been there since at least March. I know its realative to "how long is a piece of string?" but this is a little long in the tooth.

All we (I) want is information. Official information from Matrix. Surely that is not too much to ask in todays modern world of computers?

Thanks

You might want to look up one of the later beta builds...I doubt they can be found, though, since Marinacci's site is no longer operational.

Ah grasshopper... when you can snatch Flashpoint Germany from the Matrix Digital Download website then you will be ready to leave the world of wondering and enter the world of CWiF development

I did not waant the game published tomorrow, I wanted information of their progress, something from Matrix to indicate that they are solving problems and creating features to enhance the computer game etc etc

Reply to Alexander

I have the last release and have enjoyed it. I understand the difficulties in producing a credable AI. As I said to Greyshaft, I would like Matrix to be more proactive in their release of information in order to develop the WIF community. IMHO a web site that say "More Information Available Soon" is not good enough, especially when it has been like that for the last 3 months.

Translation: When Flashpoint Germany ships (due this month according to David Heath) then Matrix will have extra development resources freed up to assign to CWiF.

Yeah, I thought R. Crandall's comments were pretty self-explanatory. Nothing much to expect in the way of information until Flashpoint Germany comes out.

Of course, one can want daily updates. But, to quote the Princess Bride, "Get used to disappointment." [:)]
