Inexpiernced US Navy Pilot in war zone 1944

Post by madmickey »

In the marianas campaign the 3 CVE in port have pilots with experience level of 25. Is that correct? What do you do with these pilots, as there is no place to base to train them?

Not having tried that scenario, here's some ideas off the top of my head:

1. Do some shakedown cruises with all the a/c set to train. The ship crews will also get experience this way.

2. Find something harmless for them to attack, like a small garrison or something. Let them pound it for a few days to build experience.

3. Land the air groups and let them train out of ground bases while you use the CVE's to ferry aircraft or supplies to other bases. (I know, you said there weren't any such bases, but I wanted to include the idea anyway.)

4. Put together a surface ASW group and have it followed by a well-escorted CVE group with a/c mostly set for Search and ASW.
