Having a multitude of problems...

Post by Bcasner »

Okay, been playing since Origen off and on and here's the list of problems that I'm experiencing:

A) When flying fighters with my mouse and selecting rockets, the first 4 of so fire off when I use the right mouse button, then it won't work again! That has happened several times. (Yes, I made sure that rockets were selected and that I had a target selected, just can't shoot them off. And I hadn't had damage to myself yet.)

B) My character is a lt commander, and I can't transfer to a cap ship at all. I go to the page that has the greyed out transfer button, and expand each fleet till I see the individual ship groups and still can't transfer. Perhaps I'm doing something basic wrong, but according to what I read it should be working and it's not.

C) flying fighters.. I am having difficulty selecting the closest targets. It's hard to be able to target in my experience... Any hits I take immediatly do computer and sensor damage... wingmen will slavishly let me die and not intervene until told to do so.(sometimes they fail the "common sense" rule. Do dumb things)

D) Win the battles but lose the war. I've started my character over once because in one campaign I was winning the fighter battles but the Cap ships lost the war! My "team score" kept dropping regardless of my personal successes and we lost the campaign!

Thoughts?

A.) Don't know.

B.) You're probably doing something wrong. Try selecting the groups themselves rather than individual ships.

C.) Closest target button is U. Fighter AI is actually quite decent at fighting, it just sucks at tactical awareness and has craptacular target selection on-the-fly. If you point them at something, they can let loose and rip it apart.

D.) Best bet is to start flying bombers. [;)] Divert from your preplanned targets as need be in order to give your ships the edge they need to win. If you can't destroy a target, at least try to aim the missiles at enemy subsystems.
@TheDeadlyShoe> Unless, say, you could make black holes at will.
@Razeam> I can do that but I don't want to.

Regarding Shoe's response to Item C: be advised that when you assign a target to your wingman, you are actually telling him to attack an entire package or element. Your wingman will choose the closest target (i.e. closest to him) from the package to attack. This may not be the same ship or mine that you have targeted.

This is being changed in the first patch so that when you say "attack my target" your wingman will actually attack the specific ship you have targeted.

Regarding Item D: there is a scoring bug in the 4.0.0 release such that your side will earn no points for any mission you fly if you actually take off from the carrier's flight deck. The kills themselves do "count" in that the enemy will be deprived of any ships you shoot down. It's just that you won't see your efforts indicated in the campaign score.

This bug is also fixed in the first patch.

I will have to look into A and B. I've never had any problem with either of those things, but hey, who knows?

I have had problems with A. and C myself, but for some reason these problems just did not happen until maybe my 3rd day with the game.

Milo, for all its bugs I still love this game and have great fun playing.[8D]

Hey milo, does that scoring bug count for all fighters launched off a deck, or just the player?
