Need clarification???

Post by 2ndACR »

Just wanting to confirm something that I have noticed in my games.

The game slows way way way down at the end of a turn. On the next turn
it is even worse. Big delays on anything you click on. Do not even think about
executing a turn.

In a couple of threads on game slow downs, they are advising everyone to save and
reload before every turn? Is that correct?

I have done the reload and the game runs just fine for that turn.

My system is an old 800mhz with 196mb Ram.

Does the slowdown have something to do with the sound? I have noticed no problems other than the slowdown.

Installed both patches after loading game.

p.s. Yeah i know my computer is crap. Even my old Voodoo 5500 graphics card works without a hitch. Surprised me.

Probably the sound issue, it's leaking like a sieve as you play more and more sound files, it gets slower and slower.

No problem then. I was just curious. I will continue to reload at the start of each turn.

Pain in the butt, but I will survive.

I will try that for you, since I had no problems I did not change any sound directories.

I think I saw in a thread that someone had put a patcher together to do it.

Not the most computer literate person.

Do you want me to use the patch or go to "nosound". If no sound, do I just rename the sound directory or file or what? I be stupid where messing with stuff like that.

Frag,

Per your request, I ran three turns with the sound directory renamed to "NOSOUND". All three turns ran 100X
faster with no lag time what so ever.

Scen 15 date 12/12/41-12/16/41 playing as IJN vs AI. Average turn time went from 20min with sound and animations
down to 12 min with no sound and animations.

This was done on a Compaq Presario 5008US
Celeron 800mhz
196mb Ram
WinME
Voodoo5500 graphics w/64mb

Any other info needed?

Thanks.

If you don't mind the restarting ... you can goof around with the sound stuff until the patch is ready ... if you do, just leave the directory renamed for now.
