Shining Fortress Question [Spoilers!]

Warning: spoilers.

Great game. I have a question about the Shining Fortress campaign (campaign 3). Following my mission on Day 3-4 of the campaign, I get a message that the CV Orion has been destroyed. I have tried re-flying this message and transferring to different units but the Orion always gets KIA after the mission. Is this hard-coded into the campaign?

Oh and to second statements already made here, some ships specs and a guide to starship tactics would make a great game even better.

Yes, it's hard coded. There are a handful of places in the four campaign sequence where the back-story required certain things to happen. This is one of them.
