What kind of situations do you guys use melee in?

I've tried it a few times and my squads really got wasted. I really can't see the point because you can just as well shoot (unless the unit is out of ammo).

Am I missing something or is it the kind of absolute last resort?

I personally like to melee after/when I have a completely suppressed/routed squad and I have superior or equal numbers then it saves ammo and does abetter clean up job.[:D][8D]
