Dude! Where's my Carrier?

Post by ANUBIS »

Several of the missions in the first campaign this has happened.

I launch, hit waypoint 1 .. 2 .. Archon jumps out of system.
Finish my mission and try to "call inbound" and get a response to proceed usually 2 gate jumps away.

Is this intentional? Kind of annoying to get shredded during a mission only to find your home isn't there any more for you to limp to.

The carrier will jump out of the system if it's threatened, better to lose a few fighters then to lose an entire carrier. You can always exit the mission from the menu if no bandits are still around, justify it to yourself as ditching and being picked up by a capital ship. In game terms all you'll lose are the points for landing.

I had a slightly different issue. I select mission, launch.. and the launching animation show me hanging in space, but there are still sounds of the "catapult". When I launch.. I find myself 1 sector away from the mission location AND the carrier is not where I am .. it's at the mission location. Weird...

^ I've gotten that on occasion too.

No, with the carrier jumping out, it's at 100% and no enemies within 100k the whole battle group just decides to jump out in the middle of my mission.

And finally.. to bring up a matter of Carrier AI... Does launching 2 fighters to escort carrier against multiple waves of enemies and their escorts sounds smart? what about those enemy destoryers and cruiser AND fighters tearing friendly destroyers apart while carrier doesn't even bother sending support? That makes getting ahead in the campaign VERY difficult.. as friendly units get destroyed and dammaged for no reason. Hell.. one of the frigates got destroyed by MINES!!! WTF!!! Enemy frigs tear me appart before I get close enough to launch my missles, and friendly gets killed by MINES?! And last, but not least, why ARE the frigs waaaaaaaay out there when they should be providing fighter cover for the carrier? I am loving the game, but this stuff makes it rather frustrating.

Hehe

Been running into that lately too.

I launch on an "intercept incoming package XXXX".
I get into range (usually just after they launch thier full load of ASM's at the carrier.
I tear em up, and suddenly theres an enemy frigate 50k from me that pummels me with a stream of seemingly limitles missles, that won't decoy, and well aimed gunfire.

I can avoid gunfire.. to a degree.. but I need to flare the engines for that... that makes my decoys useless against missles.. either way.. I am ded.

Also.. in 4.0.1 EMCON 1 on the fighter didn't seem to work. I could still use the engines, sensors seemed to act in "active" mode... .

EDIT:

4.0.2: Improves stability to degree, seeing friendly fighters in area is VERY nice. Escorts for strikes, and strike missions themselves are still rather weak. 1 thunderbolt (me) vs. 1 frigate, no escorts.. right..

Try translation thrusters to avoid gunfire without hitting your engines. (Default: Joystick HAT switch).

I've never seen an assault mission give only 1 thunderbolt. The only reason I can think for that is that you only have 1 Thunderbolt left.
@TheDeadlyShoe> Unless, say, you could make black holes at will.
@Razeam> I can do that but I don't want to.
