newbie question?

Post by john martino »

Q 1 Does this game have CAP or just Long Range Cap?
Q 2 When a carrier air group loses planes and pilots ( let say %6 or so) how does the group get back up to 100%? Once they base at home port?
Q 3 What is the best way to get Navy or Marine VF Units to Henderson field for the USA early in 42 or mid 42? If CV transferes planes to Henderson how does CV get new Sqad?
Q 4 When using carriers to protect a Transport mission is it best to have CVs within the transport TF or in the same hex as a Air combat group in a second TF?

1)It has both: setup CAP at 100% and your fighter squadron will perform LRCAP.

2)CV squadrons recover from their losses when the CV is in range of a land base,so replacement aircrafts can fly off.

3)You can use your CV's to carry P-39 squadrons based in New Caledonia.
If you transfer your CV fighter squadron to a land base, you will not get any replacement squadron, so it is better to transfer land based FS using your CV or CVE.

4)I think you should form a TF with Air combat mission and set order to follow your transport TF.

All of the above but remember carriers must be in port or docked at a base within transfer range of Noumea or Brisbane to take on replacment planes. Ships at sea will never take replacments.

As said in an earlier post. CVs and BBs can never be in a transport TF.

If it is fairly quiet around Lunga, then you can always just fly the VF squadrons there by transferring them to Luganville and then the following turn transferring them to Lunga. They might need to rest for a couple of days after that, but it gets them there faster than putting them on a CVE or CV

1. Both. CAP covers the airfields/CV's hex. LRCAP allows you to fly over another hex.
2. Depending on which side you play, returning to a port that is within 2x the transfer range of Noumea or Truk will fullfill that requirement.
3. The Luganville route is the safest. Only use your CV's when you know where the IJN CV's are, until you have numerical superiority, or must protect Noumea.
4. Keep all TF's together in the same hex following the transport TF and set "do not retire", "do not react". When within one move of your intended destination, redeploy your CV's to a non-coastal hex and fly LRCAP from some of them.

Hopes this helps![;)]
