For those that growl about naval combat results...

... here's a good one that just makes sense! Dutch raiders catching a sizable IJN landing force. Good damage dealt for older dutch raiders (CL's and DD's). Daytime combat that lasted for 4 rounds.

No complaints, and now that I understand how sighted, vs unsighted works in the displays it makes total sense. [8D]

Isn't nice when you start understanding all the complexities and interreactions? [:)]

TOTALLY! [8D] I was trying to rationalize when folks would complain about fights like this where one ship gets pummeled and none of the others take so much as a hit... I remembered when Kid pointed it out that only 3 of 12 ships were even sighted. So the results made sense. I still think in terms of the interface that "unsighted" ships could be represented a little better... "greyed" out or something similar. Or a bland icon of some kind... Still... Having an understanding of the current intent makes surface actions just fine by me for now. [8D]

I'll field a question. What do you think the "unsighted" Dutch DD was doing?

Just because the Dutch DD wasn't sighted, doesn't mean it wasn't participating. Remember that the IJN ships with names are sighted by the Dutch. The Dutch ships with names are sighted by the IJN. Just because it isn't sighted doesn't mean it has or has not spotted an IJN ship. And, just because you see the ships name on the screen, it doesn't mean that ship has spotted any opponent.

Watch the combats play out. Generally if you see an unsighted ship open fire, it will become sighted within a couple of salvos.
The older I get, the better I was.
