Good Stuff: Massie's "Castles of Steel"

Post by fbastos »

Just bought Massie's book "Castles of Steel". Good stuff! A must for those who like WW1 naval history.

It took me almost a year to read "Dreadnought"... gash, I'm for the long shot on this one...

Regards!

Very good book but the subject doesn't allow the scope of "Dreadnought" (IMHO).

As a companion to "Castles of Steel", try

"Rules of the Game"
by Andrew Gordon
published by Navel Institute Press

Gordon has to reach a bit occasionally to support his ideas but it is an excellent work on the culture and professional development of the Royal Navy for the 50 years leading up to Jutland

I totally agree with you guys. Excellent book by Massie.
I was amazed by how much damage those ships could take before going
under.
