Multiplayer

First off, awesome game (and I expect awesome mods [:)]). I have a problem though; After enjoying single-player for a while, I was thinking how great multiplayer had the potential to be. So, naturally, I click the multiplayer button.

I get this screen:



Now, I thought maybe it was connecting. So I went out and came back half an hour later - nothing changed. So I figured, maybe there are no servers. That doesn't make sense though, because I should be able to host one. I thought maybe my router (linksys) was interfering with the connection. So I set my computer to DMZ. It didn't fix it, as I expected it wouldn't, since I shouldn't need to poke holes in the firewall unless I'm hosting something. So what gives? Can anyone help me out?

Your game works, the missing element of multiplayer is the players.

Use the Local Server button, it's in there...

yea, hit the local server button and setup a server. That should atleast get a MP server running. I know SS MP works throught firwalls just need to ports openned (Ive dont it pleant time).

I Agree, multiplayer is a Very, Very, important aspect of a games popularity, and survival!
I have seen many good games though out the years, But the ones that did not have good multiplayer, did not survive vary long!
Let’s face it, after you beat the game in single player mode, a game can get boring! What makes them survive is the multiplayer aspect of the game, it is a MUST HAVE, If you want the game to have a big following, and develop in to an even bigger better game of the years! And let face it, there is nothing better than having a REAL human in that ship, it takes the human aspect to make things interesting, something AI just can’t do, at least not yet.
So all I can say if there is not a STRONG multiplayer base right from the start, and the ability to make instant servers, Like say the battlefield games, it is doomed to fail. It’s just the way Gamers are today.
