Question for Michael Wood - what about starting mines at ports?

Post by Apollo11 »

Hi all,

In both WitP editor(s) and in post Michael Wood made here explaining the data layout WitP database editor(s) read there is no mention of mines that exist at ports at the beginning of the scenario.

Also our fellow WitP enthusiast Michael ("michaelm" - he wrote "WitPDump" program) told me that he thinks WitP editors write some binary data for "Locations" that has no visible explanation seen in editor(s).

My guesstimate is that those "mysterious" binary values perhaps represent number of mines at ports.

So... is there possibility that WitP editor(s) are not complete (i.e. that they don't show all existing data)?

Michael Wood - can you please answer?

Thanks in advance!

Hello...

Mines present in a port are calculated by the executable, at run time and not in the data base.

Bye...

Hi all,

Thanks for info!

So... you can't put 1000 mines at Tokyo for example... interesting...

BTW, can you please comment on what "michaelm" (he is the author of "WitpDump" program posted here in another thread) saw about some additional binary data being written by WitP editors?

Hello...

Old data. We changed the structure several times and ended up with unused data fileds. These should be zeroed out.

Bye...

Thanks for info (greatly appreciated for all people who will try to import/export data from database)!

Michael

without giving anything away,

what roughly determines the presence of a mine depot in a base?
Supplies/resoureces/MLE??

Hello...

All bases or size 9 or greater have a mine depot. If you mean what determines if the port is mined or no, it is the base size.
