Trouble downloading updates
Just bought HTTR & am looking forward to playing it. However, I can't download the updates. I have tried both TrueUpdate & downloading them manually. I just get a message that it is searching for file information, then it eventually times out. I am running Windows XP and have a cable connection. Am also running MacAfee. Can you help? Thanks

RE: Trouble downloading updates
If you bought it new I think its already updated anyway.
RE: Trouble downloading updates
It's Version 2.0.70 which I believe is not the latest (Could be wrong???) I also tried turning off MacAfee, which didn't help.

RE: Trouble downloading updates
BAL,
I am having no problems downloading the 2.2.86 patch right now. I went in through the Downloads section and clicked on the HTTR icon. I then clicked on the 2286 patch and was asked if I wanted to open or Save the file. Do you get this far?
Sometimes this can be a browser problem solved by a simple close and reopen. What browser are you using?

RE: Trouble downloading updates
I'm using IE Version 6 and I have tried closing & re-opening. No luck. I'm scratching my head over this one as I can download stuff from other sites. Is there a mirror site for downloads? In the meantime I going to try a few other things, but am still open to suggestions.

RE: Trouble downloading updates
Hi Folks,
I also cannot download ANY of the update files now. I too am using IE Explorer 6.0. Closing and opening have no effect. I can download files from other websites (but they are not using ftp transfer!). I have tried it on several computers at work here now and none can access the files. No, there is no university block of ftp transfer (I discussed this with our computer support folks (I did not tell them it was for game files though [;)]).
What is going on?? [&:]

RE: Trouble downloading updates
As I mentioned earlier we are not having any problems and we're using IE6 as well. One thought, have you installed the latest IE patches/updates?
As this may end up being a web hosting/server issue I'm going to hand this one over to Matrix.
Shaun/Erik/Ron...Matrix Troopers,
Can you please look into this.

RE: Trouble downloading updates
Try if the following works in Internet Explorer:
1. Click on "Internet Options"
2. Click on "Advanced"
3. Check the "Use Passive FTP" checkbox. Activate it.
4. Click on "Okay"
5. Restart Internet Explorer
Other browsers may have a setting like this too.
Or
Try login in directly to the PUB ftp with an FTP client.
ftp.matrixgames.com
port: 21
username: anonymous
password: your email adress
use PASV mode if possible

RE: Trouble downloading updates
Hi Marc,
I have the "Use Passive FTP" box checked; it does not make a difference. [:(] I do not have a direct ftp client program, but I can obtain one. This is really weird. I try to download a file, and after a wait, I receive the standard error message page stating that the website I am trying to connect to is not available. RE: Trouble downloading updates
Unfortunately, I also did not have any sucess with the options you suggested, Marc. I tried it on my computer at work (sshhhh! don't tell) and I had no trouble at all. I have to think that there is some setting somewhere that is blocking access to the download site for HTTP. To throw another mystery into the equation, I recently downloaded SPWAW & had no problems! RE: Trouble downloading updates
Might be some application you guys are running is blocking it, or some security settings of the browser, maybe even the ISP, it´s hard to tell from here. Try the FTP client approach please and let me know if that works.
RE: Trouble downloading updates
Marc - I tried the ftp client approach also & it didn't work either. [:@] Maybe someone else has an option. The only other thing I can think of is to try again at home with MacAfee disabled since I have changed that ftp setting in the internet options menu. I'll let you know if it works.

RE: Trouble downloading updates
Hi Marc,
Same here -- connecting with an independed ftp client software still does not work. [:(]
This is so perplexing! [:@] I can access other files via IE 6.0 and they are ftp sites. I cannot for the life of me figure out why I can't access files from the Matrix site. My security level is set on medium. Everything else is the standard default settings. Are BAL and me the only people that have reported this? What could possibly be different about the matrix ftp site? HELP! [&o]

RE: Trouble downloading updates
Hi Bal,
reading all this I was just wondering if you have SP2 installed. There are a lot of reports of problems after installing it. I noticed Longstreet mentioned he has it installed.

Murky71 - No, I don't have XP SP2 installed yet. As Longstreet says, this is a most perplexing issue.

RE: Trouble downloading updates
I'm reading this at work while I anxiously wait to go home and install my new game (HTTR of course).
So, I was curious and tried it from here. So far its working fine.
BTW, I run a browser called Opera, and there's an office virus program running that I can't touch the settings on. But its working fine. (Fingers crossed that it works when I get home as well!)
Good luck figuring this one out, but just wanted to let you know that I could get to it and download. Let me know if I can answer any questions about my setup in the next 45 min or so.

RE: Trouble downloading updates
Well, I've re-tried at home with MacAfee shut off & still no luck. [:(] Apparently this issue just affects a few of us.

RE: Trouble downloading updates
What´s your ISPs ?
Do a "trace route" and check for possible bottlenecks.

Hi Marc,
Okay -- now your asking questions I am not sure how to address. [:(] What steps should I take to answer your questions?
Thanks,
Longstreet
