I started my long campaigns over and edited this DAR because of this. I did this because i always set the historical ratings at 45 to start. This made all my troops green. i found this did not work out right. As i never had any better troops as the war went on. I went back to the default setting to let the computor control this. I didnt know when to move up the setting on historical to keep pace with the war.

I bought cheap to start this one off. In order to get the 3 companys of troops the way i wanted them. The computor gave me some where around 3400 purchase points. I didnt want to make this higher and figured i had enough to take care of anyways. I will have enough points to upgrade slowly anyways. This is the way most commanders had do it i believe.

Nomonhon East Asia: Assault 1515 Hours 9/2/39

The sand storm continues. The assault jumped off at 1500 hours. We are moving rather slow due to the storm. My engineers have reached the mine field and have started clearing a path thru.

We have not seen many of the enemy so far. The center has recieved some small arm fire on our engineers. Same with the south flank. We laid in Mortar and Howitzer fire on them. Our 150 continue to search for the enemy without much luck. A few random kills is all.

I sent the trucks i had to move my AT and infantry guns up and loaded the engineers. This allowed them to get to the mine fields sooner. My troops are about 100 yds and some closer to the mines. They are just waiting for the engineers to open a 150 yd wide corrider to pass thru.

Will keep you informed of when we are thru. Have recieved one volley of 122 MM fire. No damage so far.

Nomohon East Asia Assault 1525 Hours 9/2/39

My Engineers on my right flank in the North have opened up a 50 yd wide path so far. The first recon is thru the breech and holding for my troops to start thru. Light MMG fire has been harrassing them so far. Had my Mt gun and my 90 Mortars lay in a barrage on the suspected location. Seemed to have quited him down for now.

The center flank having a little more trouble opening up a path thru. Believe there are more mines here. The trucks have got all the engineers up to the mine field so far. Lost one truck while moving back from there to MMG fire.

My southern flank is even further behind on there task. They have just reached and started to clear a few mines. As i have less Engineers in the souuth have told them to only work on a 100 yd wide corrider. The terrain was some what rougher here which caused more of a delay.

I am sure we will be on our way very shortly. Had a 122mm big gun open up on us about 15 mins ago. No damage so far but they really havent found our range yet. Hope we are out of here before they do.

Nomonhon East Asia 1530 Hours 9/2/39

The North flank has broken thru and moving up the eastern slope of the hill. We have reached the summit of the hill over looking the northern objective. Our scouts have moved about 150 yds towards the sw side of the hill. Our troops are pouring thru the gap the Engineers have cut thru the mines. As soon as the troops are thru i will bring the tanks up for support. In the meantime they are on over watch. We have not met much in the way of resistence. I feel the Russians are waiting for us on the western slopes of the hill.

The center has managed to cut a 100 yd wide path thru the mines as well. The scouts have moved out and already engaged the enemy. The troops here too are glad to be moving again. We lost an armored recon car to a well dug in enemy. The scouts have also reached the summit but are holding till our troops can move up. The center called for a barrage to be layed down on the suspected positions of the Russians. The barrage consisting of 70 and 90 mm mortars and a sec of MT Guns should begin soon. The troops are to move up as soon as it lifts and roust out the enemy from there fox holes.

The southern flank is about to break thru soon. They were subjected to extreme bombardments from the enemy. Also there terrain is a lot rougher and slower going. Although they were fired on after reaching the mine field. There has been no return fire ever since our mortars quit firing.

Our trucks are doing one heck of job for us. After moving the Engineers up they went back and got some of our troops moved up too. They are now going to the rear and picking up our IG guns and AT guns and bringing them up.

Morale is high and the men are ready to go. Banzai Banzai Banzai for the Emperor.

South flank has taken the top of the hill. They are moving on to there objective now. Have met light resistence so far. No losses except for a few men. They are about 700 yds from VH and moving well.

North flank has taken top of hill too. Moving against a light enemy force. Movement is slow going 50 to 100 yds at a time. Have lost some men and an armored car so far. They are within 50 yds of there objectives. There tanks are comin up as support but have not seen anything to shoot at so far. Am trying to get the IG guns moved up to some where they can see ahead of troops. So far they have been usless. The vis is about 450 yds but the ground is so rocky and hilly its hard to see where the enemy is.

The center is having a tough time gaining any ground. Movement is very slow. Each 100 yds we gain is paid for in blood. We have lost both recon cars and most of the recon force. We have located 2 MMG nests which we smoked. Hoping to flank them now. The front nest is protected on ther right by another nest 200yds back and 50 yds to there right. Behind the right rear one is 76.2 at gun firing long distance. Another 76AT gun is to the left of front nest by about 100yds and to the rear of him bout 500yds. Our mortars and MT gun has laid down smoke on all of them. The center has a long way to reach there objectives which has a rail road running right thru the center. We are advancing down this RR and along both sides of it. They have taken the top of there hill and moving to the west slope. But are having to fight for every 50yds gained. We have lost too many men i fear. But no losse to armor except for the recon cars.

As they have found MMG nests and AT guns in the center i have pulled all engineers from the mine fields and moving them up on each flank of each company. This is to give them support against the bunkers and such. I am moving a flame tank up on the first MMG nest right now. The center has at least 1500yds to reach there objective. I am hoping the north and south flank can each turn into the center. This is after they have taken there objectives. This should pull some of the enemy off of the centers flanks.

We will take the first 3 objectives i am sure. Dont know if there will be time to reach both rear ones tho.

Nomonhon East Asia:1640 Hours 9/2/39

North flank have taken there objective. They have swung south to try and help the center. Engineers are moping up on couple MG nests. We have begun to run into a lot of Russians on the right flank of center. They are well dug in and hard to see in this sandstorm.

South flank has taken top of hill. Sent 1 platoon of tanks and a platoon of engineers south to take objective there. They are within 150 yds of it. It is tough going here too. Making 50 yds a turn if we are lucky. The rest of the company has turned North West to move up on centers south flank. As we came over the hill to the west slope, we have run into at least a company of dug in enemy. We are pushing hard and they have begun to give up ground. Here too the weather and terrain has slowed us down.

Center is still bout 750 yds from objectives. They have run into a mess of MG nests and 76.2 guns. Also lost a tank to an unseen big gun. Sounded like a sig 150 what with the explosion that was heard. I know it took out one of our tanks with 1 shot. That was the first tank we have lost so far.

We are losing a lot of men to an almost invisable enemy. You have to be within 150 yds it seems to see them. We lost 2 snipers and another recon squad besides a squad of engineers. Also a lot of squads are down to near half strength.

Our 150s have been out of ammo for almost 20 mins now. We have no more ammo for the mortars or the mountain guns. They are about to run out of smoke too. Tanks are getting low on HE too. There is just too many dam Russians out there. I know we have to have killed some where around 1000 of them but they just keep popping up from every where. We captured one of them when we destroyed another one of those MG nests. Kind of hard to make anything from his jibberish but i think he said from hell or this is hell.

There 122 are wrecking havoc on us. This is where we have suffered most of our casualties from. It is also very hard to get the men to move again after each bombardment. We will not make the rear objectives just to far to go. They are at least 2000 yds from our closest squad. Even the tanks in a headlong rush with no opposition cant drive that far. Our tanks can only make from 100 to 150 yds with no enemy to fight. And believe me the enemy is every where. The lead objectives will all be taken with in the next 1/2 hour or so. I guarantee this with my life.

Nomonhon East Asia: Assault 1700 Hours 9/2/39

South flank has taken objectives and moving west slowly against heavy opposition. Have sent platton of engineers and one of infantry in nw direction. They are in sight of the left flank of center company. They have sec of tanks as support. Two plattoons of infantry with tank support has begun the drive to wards southern rear objective. Plattoon of engineers has been told to hold the captured objective to the death. South flank lost there first tank to a russian stronghold. Have smoked it to take it out of action. Will bypass it tho too strong and takes too much time. Which i dont have any more of.

The north flank has taken theres too. Here again have sent 2 plattoons of engineers south east to bolster the right flank of the center. Three plattoons of infantry with tank support has begun to move towards the rear objectives. They are near 2000 yds away and i am sure heavily protected. In the last 5 minutes they have knocked out 2 MG nests and at least 3 squads of the enemy.

The center i am sorry to say is still 150 yards from there first objective and moving very slowly. With in last 10 minutes they have knocked out 2 heavy MMG plus several squads. There recon car has come under fire from what sounded like 20MM AA fire. I have smoked what i thought was there positon. Only now have most of there plattoons come into position on the line. Most of there squads havent even fired there guns as yet. This was due to the heavy congestion coming thru the mine fields. Even if they all had transport which they dont it would be hard to reach the rear areas in time. Here again they are near 2500 yds from the rear objectives. At least ther IG guns got a few shots in at a couple of enemy squads in the distance. Although i dont think they did very much damage.

The Russian 122 guns continue to harrass us. They must have a direct pipeline to Moscow with as much ammo that has dropped on us so far. We are into the second hour of this battle and they have yet to let up. We have now knocked out at least 7 mortar positions and at least that has slowed down.

Nomonhon East Asia 1720Hours 9/2/39

The center has reached there first objectives and have run into a world of trouble. There are two 7.62 guns sitting on the VH. Plus two MG nests. A squad of engineers risked there lives by rushing forward on the first nest. One of there men was able to get a satchell charge laid up against the front of the fort. A really big boom and they all went to hell. The outher one was roasted and toasted by a flame tank. We are preparing to flank and charge the two 7.62s. Three squads will make the initial charge to distract them and hope inflict some damage also to keep there heads down. Then two tanks each flank of guns will move up into firing position. With these two guns gone and VH captured the center can begin move towards the rear objectives.

The north flank has begun to pull its right flank in and down towards the rear objectives. They have hooked up with center on there left flank and clearing out the enemy there. Also moving well now towards the rear.

The south is still trying to get thru the more then company strength on there right flank near the center. They are moving but very slowly. There left flank after takeing there objective has turned north west to hook back up with the company.

Almost forgot the left flank of center company has run into a mess. They have recieved fire from a 45MM ATG which has taken out another recon car. This is SW of there position which has been smoked. Also to the north west about 150yds and behind this gun about 100 yds is two more MG nests. I also think there is a 7.62 hiddin some where around there. Needless to say as we are over 250yds from them we have laid a lot of smoke there too.

Sir is there anything we can do about those dam 122s. They continue to fire on us. Over two hours into this battle and they have not let up. This has been one of the major reasons we are moving so slow. It is very hard to get men to move when death is constantly raining down on you. I would love to take one of those guns and stick a commisar where the sun dont shine, pull the trigger and see how he likes it.

Nomonhon East Asia 1745 Hours 9/2/39

The battle is over we have fought them to a draw. The Russians have pulled back from the front lines. They were a tough opponent for my forces. Japan 4128 Russia 6376
Japan Russia
Men 340 992
Artt 20
soft 2
AFV 8

I saw no Russian tanks at all. Didnt get far enough in the rear i suppose. Did see a lot of MG nests, log rifle pits and MG bunkers. Also at least 3 strong points which are steel bunkers. Knocked out 7 of the pits and MG bunkers and nests. We also got 12 HMG and 3 of the 7.62 AA guns. Along with this we destroyed 17 mortars of the 50mm type.

We were with in 700 yds of the north rear objective. I suppose i could have tried to rush my troops to the rear and done better. But i would rather get a draw and save some lives then lose all my tanks and a lot more infantry.

We have been ordered to the rear to get reinforcements and make repairs. I will upgrade the 2 tanks i lost and repair the recon cars there. I have been able to replace the 3 sections of WC/13 AA guns with 20MM. Also upgraded all 70MM mortars to 81MM. Plus at least 3 of the 90s to 150MM mortars. Should get some more punch there i hope.

There was alot of bravery displayed by several squads in this battle. You have my list of promotions and recommended decorations. I hope you see fit to honor them before the next battle. I understand our upcoming battle is next month against the same troops we faced here. That is good news to the men they want to get at them again. Will give us something to think about for the next month. Will be a sweet revenge to kill some of the same ones who took the lives of so many of our friends.
