Panzer General One and Two

Post by Von Rom »

Now that SSI has given Matrix the source code to several wargames, it might be interesting, and very rewarding, if Matrix could get the source code from SSI to two of its most popular wargames: Panzer General, and Panzer General Two.

Both games have a very loyal following. Just imagine the bug fixes, graphic changes, the new maps, etc that could be added to these games to give them a whole new life... Even a random battle generator could be added to both games.

I am sure many, many people would be willing to pay for these "improved" games if, and when, this is done. I know I would...

My guess is that SSI would give Matrix nothing if they thought they could still make money on it themselves. PG is still an active series, while PW and WiR are old, "dead" games as far as SSI is concerned. They know they wouldn't make much money on remakes of these two "heavy" wargames as they don't appeal to a large audience. PG on the other hand appeals to a wide audience, perhaps because its a "light" wargame, and could still be a money maker for them. I don't think SSI would sell the PG series to anyone. All of this is just an opinion though.

I'm sure that the guys at Matrix would be much better off putting their effort into deleloping their own wargames that us the players can then buy from them rather then re-working old games that they won't be able to make money on
