Routing Bug or Misinformation

Post by DJAndrews »

Please ignore (I'm not sure how to delete this). I have been unable to reproduce the route originally shown for the TF. Saves show the route going directly to destination. I have no idea how the route graphic I originally saw appeared, but I'm checking my medications.

Playing Scenario 2 vs AI, patched up-to-date. A convoy is en route to Alkyab (sp?) from Tricomilee (sp?). The projected route shown for the task force has it moving well north, hugging the coastline and moving initially towards Chandpur before turning south towards Alkyab. This was done by the AI, presumably to avoid enemy air located at Rangoon.

Given the route I don't bother to set a cap to cover the TF. When the turn executes, the TF ignores its intended route and moves instead directly toward its destination, penetrating well into the Rangoon air ZOC. Pffft. Seconds later, 4 transports with a sqn of Hurricanes and a British Rgt are no more.

Was this a bug? Either in the direction that the TF moved or the intended path shown or is it intended that this sort of misinformation occur occasionally (eg. simulated human error)?

An addendum question:

Why do some TF's go way out of their way to avoid real (or imagined) threats, while others seem to TRY to get as close to, say..., Kwajalein as they can. I once watched a TF bound from Darwin to Brisbane detour almost to Noumea before doubling back to Brisbane.

What type of TF did you create ? Transport ? Cargo ? I know in the original version of PacWar, Transport TFs would brave enemy air attacks and head straight for the destination... Whereas Cargo would skirt from friendly CAP to friendly CAP.... Perhaps this is also true in WitP ?

Hi,

I think that they might change routing due to enemy sub sightings and so on. I noticed something like that in my game against the Jap AI.
2 Transport TFs going from Brisbane/Townsville destination Pago-Pago and homebase SF/LA. A few hexes east of Efate/Luganville they are sighted by a Glen from a sub that I sight between Luganville and Efate. When I click on them the next turn the course is shown as heading away from the sub and making a bend around Suva? to Pago-Pago.
On the next turn they are going straight towards Pago-Pago again.
My impression was definitely that they were routed away from the sub by the routing algorithm even though they were under Human control.
