Hints, Questions, Clarifications requested...

Post by Reluctant Kamikazi »

1. What actual function do AD's perform?

2. I read somewhere that AE's cannot replenish until '44 or so. Is this true? I sure can't seem to get them to do anything but function as a 3000 pt AK.

3. How much help do AR's give?

4. Does an HQ of the same hex as a subordinate unit, and both are in an unaffiliated zone negate the penalty for the subordinate unit for being in a 'foreign' zone? I guess I am just a little unclear on the effects of the whole HQ/Zone thing.

5. Is there some way to counter the slaughter of AP's when attacking a base with heavy CD's? I don't see how Higgins boats are represented by this.

6. How much difference is apparent between AI hard and very hard settings?

7. I have had success getting DM's to mine the hex of a base they are docked in by undocking them, and then setting destination to that hex. The ML's won't do this. Am I missing something?

Scratch #5. I just found the thread dealing with that.

1. AD's allow you to reload torpedos in base smaller than size 8. If size 3 or more, just disband them in port.

2. AE's should (if loaded with supply) rearm ships at a port (dot with no supply) with 5" ammo and below.

3. Put 4 AR's in a size 8 or above port with a Naval HQ and watch them go. They help alot.

4. Your question flew right over my head.

5. Try not to send them where heavy CD's are. You can place a couple of CA's to help with counter battery fire. It works pretty good. DD's will get massacared.

6. No clue, I play PBEM. Only AI to kill time between turns.

7. Not sure, I just send them out about 3 hexes with Patrol/ Do not retire then set home base somewhere else, set retirement allowed, plot them to where I want the mines laid and presto.

Thanks.
#4. makes perfect sense to ME, but of course I wrote it......

What I meant:
I understand (and have seen) the penalties in unit efficiency when it is in a zone that it is not assigned to. Will having an HQ within command range that is from the same zone as the unit help negate the penalty? I think that is clearer (I hope).

Personally I would prefer PBEM myself, but my erratic schedule would drive an opponent around the bend. The AI does not care if I don't get back to him for four days, and then hammer him 5 hrs/day for three.

#7. That is the how I have been doing it. I was hoping for a better way.

Regarding #4, a long discussion of the effects and uses of HQ units just took place recently.

HQ & Base Association

There may be others, but that's the latest one that I'm aware of.

I'm not meaning to sound harsh, but you may want to try using the forum's search function. Many of these have been discussed and the answers already posted. [:)]

Harsh, I think not. Good advice. I am a newbie here and will happily take any and all comments such as that how they are intended. Thank you.

I haven't been here very long myself. I just happened to notice that many of your questions (in this and other threads) were things that I had seen or been part of over the last month. Thought it might help save you some time and effort to point out the search function. Good to know there are no "bad feelings". [:D]
