Def questions (again)

Some def questions (I’m trying to balance some ships)
I know many of these have been asked before but a portion of the old forums is missing and I can’t seem to locate any answers….[&:]

1. What’s the Damage formula for beam weapons?
I know that bolt weapons are:
Damage = (Damage*Charge*Lifetime)*(1.0 - (Time in flight/Lifetime))
So that a 5 damage, 5 charge, 3 second lifetime hitting after 2 seconds does 25 damage. Beams are similar but I can’t find the exact formula.


2. How many “hit points” do subsystems have?

3. What’s the design type for Deflector Shields?
I’ve tried variations around “Deflector Shields” but "Grav Shield" is the only one I can find.

4. Explosion_scale, is this only for Death spirals ? I can’t make it work for Subsystem damage.

5. A beam/bolt weapon with two muzzle locations does twice as much damage/draws twice the power? Or is this for graphics only?

Beam weapons are simply damage * time (how long the beam stays in contact in seconds) and it drops linearly to 0 where the beam ends.

2. Nobody knows.

3. I don't know, but it doesn't matter if you're filling in your own statistics for the shield.

4. Yes.

5. Both muzzles share the same capacitor and require the full amount of energy to fire.

by beam ends you mean "length:" parametre?
so if the target is 20000 metres away and "length:" is set to 40000 it = 0.5 damage?

but does the weapon do damage x number of muzzles, or just damage

Length is where damage hits zero. Each muzzle does normal damage. And I'm not sure what what other shields are available because I've only ever used Grav Shield.
