The best pilot ever seen

Post by Buchon »

It's no more than a nonsense, but I'm playing the Guadalcanal scenario with Japan, and there's a pilot, Ltjg. Handa, R., from F2/281st DAITAI, that has achieved 3 kills despite he hasn't flew any mission. The unit is stacioned at Gasmata, and has seen many action against Allied raids coming from Port Moresby and Gili-Gili, with several pilots getting some kills, but al least they have taken out.

Remember, flying CAP does not count as a mission for the records... Only actually leaving the base on an attack or escort counts as a mission.

Thank you. I haven´t noticed it, but in fact, it´s on the manual.
Anyway, it´s the first time I find out such a situation.

Tracking CAP missions might be a good idea, if only to round out pilot experience of all kinds.
Regarding Frank Jack Fletcher: They should have named an oiler after him instead. -- Irrelevant

Best I've had is 5 kills before getting a recognized mission.

What I find to be an even bigger joke is the way that the game selects one squadron (out fo say a CV battle group) and has it accumulate the majority of kills.

The Mariannas Turkey Shoot gives the most outrageous results. I had VF-16 accumulate about 280 kills in about two months. Most of the surviving pilots had 15-20 kills each. The next best squadron in the TF had about 80 accumulated kills while flying the same number of missions. The guys on the CVLs seem to have been mostly observers with about 5 kills per CVL while flying a similar number of missions.

The other thing I've noticed is the pilots have "hot" streaks and may kill as many a 8 in a day and then kill none for several weeks.

I had a Chinese pilot nail 8 Nates on one mission flying an I-16. Hasn't had a kill since then!

Well, stop putting all the CV's in one TF or bunching all the TF's into the same hex

use them as they were used, and you numbers will turn out better
