Anyone notice Stranraer and Singapore air units?

Post by sir_lovealot »

Can't find any Singapore and Stranraer air unit..although they are exist in database and hundreds of them available on replacement pool.

I think this is a waste of database space...better save it for better aircraft like F8F bearcats...

Don't know about Singapore but aren't there Stanraer a/c on the Canadian west coast? Vancouver and can't remember the name of the other base.

Yes, Canada had them but I think they upgrade as fast as you get them.

Yeah...just like what I said these planes are a waste of database space...as there is no way to downgrade an air unit. CMIIW

Stranraers served throughout most of the war and did not upgrade until rather late. Bearcats did not serve. How are they a waste exactly?

I am pretty sure ALL the Canadian aircraft upgrade to PBY, which means with in a couple days or months at most, the Canadian units are flying PBY.

I am at April 1st 1942 and I am pretty sure all my stuff for Canada is now PBY.

If stranraer served in throughout most of the war, why doesn't realistically represented in WitP. I am also sure Bearcat will be present at fairly significant number by early 1946, which is still inside WitP time period.

It if it has the chance, Bearcat will have much more impact on pacific war than stranraer.

How about because Stanraers didn't DO anything throughout the entire war of any
significance? But with a number of scenarios extending into 1946, Bearcats would
have been operationally active in the Front Lines.

But in a game like this, we have seen just how varied the front lines can be. Who is to say that a player may not subject the West Coast to IJN submarine blockade, or an actual invasion as Nik attempted in that wild AAR. Suddenly, these aircraft are in the thick of it.

That said, the Bearcat is more glamorous and a totally different beast, but one "what if" should not displace another equally potential "what if."

It doesn't matter for me whether Stranraer present in WitP or not, although it is somewhat inferior compared to Catalina.

But if it is present in database, it shoud get more reasonable chance of involvement.

If I can't use it why it should be there?

What is your problem?
Canada has quite a few airgroups with Stranraers. They are used in the Alaska area.

Of course removing Singapores and Stranraers won't actually give you room for the Bearcat. There are plenty of slots open for adding land based aircraft but the Bearcat needs a carrier capable slot. They should move the early Corsair to a different slot and use its old slot for bearcats. [:'(]

The easiest way to deal with this is turn OFF the auto upgrade for the Canadian air groups and leave them as Stanraers and put them on 100% patrol......with ops losses it will use some of the pool and leave the Catalinas for other formations that could use them in SOPAC, SWPAC, CENTPAC, etc.

As for Singapores have not seen them anywhere yet

As far as I know, there were only 7 Singapores in the Pacific War: 3 at Hong Kong and 4 with 5 New Zealand which converted to PBYs by the middle of 1942. The 5 RNZAF Singapores are listed in the OB thread.

That's an excellent suggestion Splinterhead! Then we won't have have to hear everyone gripe about, "Corsairs being placed on CV's early in the war thread".[:D]

Yes ists a small old flying boat with short range. There's at least one unit belonging to the NZAAF. I'm playing scenario 12 and have the unit staioned in Noumea on ASW.
