Carrier Aircraft Replenishment

Post by Pier5 »

How does this work? How is it supposed to work? Where is it covered in the rules? I have the following situation which is totally confusing me.

I have the CVE Nassau based in Kwajalein, which has plenty of supply. I have plenty of reserve aircraft. I form a replenishment task force consisting of the Nassau and two DD's (a replenishment TF with DD's and oilers is already at sea and nearby). When formed, this CVE has 0 F4F's and 33 SBD's in the VR squadrons. If I let the TF stay in port until the next day, the Nassau has 50 F4F's and 50 SBD's. Cool, let's go! However, as soon as I sortee the next day, the aircraft complement returns to zero F4F's and 33 SBD's. Continuing on, I rendevous with the Carrier TF. Nothing happens. I hit replenish at sea on the carrier TF. Nothing happens. I haven't tried a regular transfer, as it indicates the whole squadron will transfer.

Has anybody actually confirmed that aircraft replacement at sea actually works? I can't find a word about it in the rules, despite searching everyway I can think of. HELP!

I am fairly sure that replenishment at sea is for fuel only; until '45 when ammo etc may be done as well. For aircraft, you must do it manually, flying off the CVEs to the CVs by using the transfer to ship button. They won't do it automatically.

That wont work, You cant fly off a carrier with more than 110 percent capacity I thought. And that would require you to break the groups down into sections, not sure you can do that with a 24 plane group, and manually disband into recieving group.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Woops, you are right. I was only looking at the word replenishment and didn't look to see the load.

Thanks for the reply, Mogami. Each of the carriers only require two or three SBD's and TBF's (which I have no replacements for, as they are included with CVE's which also have a Hellcat replacement unit, which doesn't really exist, which eventually decide to fly, which...Oh, WTF).

Since my original post, four units have shown up in Pearl, identified as VFB's, each of which contain 9 SBD's. These unit numbers of the VFB's correspond to the squadron numbers of the four fleet carriers for which replacements were desired. What are these things? I would move these to Kwaj, but my missing aircraft were replaced when I returned to base. Now, I couldn't help but notice that 9 is 10 percent of the 90 aircraft allowed on fleet carriers, allowing for the 110% overload. Interesting. Perhaps we don't have a clue how this game actually works. If moved to the carriers, I guess the SBD's would become hangar queens.

When you receive these files, note the Nassau, while in port in Kwaj, has 50 F4F's and 50 SBD's, but not nearly that many pilots.

Mogami:

Did you get my files? I'm pretty sure this problem is driven by something funky in the pilot allocation. Leaving the Nassau in port in a TF, the number of aircraft available has been 7, then 6, then 2, then 6. The variation has been driven by the number of pilots, which varies depending who knows what.
